This weekend I found out that when I run my power inverter I get a large buzz through the stereo. Does not matter if its the cd or FM. I have a inverter in my work truck but it never causes problems with that radio.
Any Ideas??

what kind of inverter. I put a 1750 watt in my 290 and it works without a problem. I got a Xantrex.
If you went with an inexpensive modified sine wave type that may be part of the problem.
Where is the inverter connected, port or stbd battery?

Are you taking the power from the inverter straight into the stereo without some filter caps in front of it? You're probably seeing the same issues you'd have with doing that in 12v DC.
Here's a thought, swing by a BestBuy and snag an APC (American Power Conversions) UPS. Those things are truly great AC filters as well as a battery backup. THey can take the nastiest 80 to 200v inputs and give a silky smooth 115 out. You can usually get one for under $40 and that should clean up your inverted DC to AC nicely.
(Filter caps for 110 AC are freakin huge and frankly quite dangerous to boot, doubt you'd want that on your boat!)

I have a cheap 3000 watt unit hooked straight to the starboard batt. I switched the radio to the port batt. but still get the noise. I have the same inverter in my truck. I had planned on running the fridge on it but I do like to have some tunes.

Could it be possible interference backfeeding through a bad ground?

that is what it sound slike.
Why do you need an inveter on the fridge mine is the dometic that is ac /dc and I thought our boats were pretty much twins?
The radio wiring should have already been on the the port battery since it all rund down that side to get to the cockpit. did you run power AND ground all the way back to the batteries, and where is the invereter mounted?

inverter is under the shifters (dry and lots of room) ran heavy cables directly to the star battery. all of the radio wiring is factory( it seems to be ran from the battery selector switch on mine)
This boat was not equiped with the weekender package, thus it only had an ice box. So I built a refridge ( I am a tight ass refrigeration guy)
I am realativly sure I have a great ground from the batt to the inverter. But I will recheck everthing.

sounds like my install, I am reserving the spot under the shifters for a 3k beke for when I add AC, I put my inverter upside down above the rear side storage area, it was tight fit, but dry and lots of air.
do you have the buzz if the inv is on, or only under a load?
you could also try a simple ground loop isolator on the head unit and see if that fixes it. Talk to the guys at stereo west they should be able to help you with right noise filter. I am going to say it is interference from the power supply in the inv back feeding to thr stereo, and that was common in the old days of car audio and a pretty easy fix

noise is there anytime the inverter is on.
I assume you have looked under the helm? seems to tightt for a genny. I had a little trouble getting my 21" tv antennea in there. How big is the beke? I have air but was going to use a poratble gen

The noise filters hould be able to isolate that noise out. is the power in the head unit running anything, or is it all amp driven?
Is the air installed or carry on?
The new low CO 3.0 bekes are 25 x 14 x 15" tall, when I had it apart I took measurements and it will be tight but should fit no preb, and then I am putting a mermaid air with heat under the front berth.

I figure with the genset I could eliminate a couple of batteries and lkeep the weight the same
