Well it took a while for everyhting to arrive, but I am finally making some progress on the stereo for my new boat. It took quite a while to find a head unit that did everything I wanted, but I finally found it.
Here is the setup (so far)
Rockford Fosgate 9220 headunit with 2 wired remotes a
two Rockford 801S amps for the subs and an
one Rockford 801 X for the mids and highs in the cockpit, and
a linear power 652i for the 6x9s in the cabin.
6 pairs of the new Infinity marine 6.5 coaxs in the cockpit
an MB Quart component set that was there when I bought it
4 Alpine Type R 12" subs in a ported enclosure under the rear seat
I will integrate my XM2GO receiver using the aux in on the headunit for XM radio.
The system is not as elaborate as I would have liked to have gone, but I wanted it to look factory and not take up every bit fo storage I had.
I am mounting the amps in the hanging closet in the cabin so they will be safe and secure, and I have fan cooled the area so the amps will not thermal.
I chaged out the alternators for 110 amp marine models and ran 1/0 for the power and a pair of 4ga for the grounds for the amps. It is a little overkill, but it was all stuff in the garage so might as well use it
I am going with 6 batteries total, a pair of group 27s (one for each motor for starting) and 4 group 29s, a pair for the "house" and a pair for the stereo.
We have done our best to utilize stock or unused space for mounting everything, and my hope is for someone to look at theboat and say is that factory?
I will add pictures as I get parts installed and update info if it changes [smilie=071.gif]
These are of the before areas

the new sides will be redone in white vinyl only but the speakers will still be inset. I am going with white speakers so they should not stick out as much
we are building pods for the base of the pedastal in the rounded area to hold another pair of speakers per side, they will also be white vinyl

Sounds good and looks like you've come a long way since Jeff and I spent the afternoon helping you slave over the stereo system. Or was that keep you from slaving over the stereo system? Can't wait to hear it. [smilie=071.gif] [smilie=071.gif]

Looks really sweet. Very nice wire runs.
I just got my 0g today for amps, how do u cut this shit?? My regular wire cutter/crimper/stripper just isnt up to the task.
Christian
02-28-2006, 07:24 PM
Tin snips if they are sharp, depending on the brand of 1/0 I use a razor knife and it cuts the indvidual strands as well. I have a set of large snips that I use, but tin snips work fine.
Thakns for the compliment
There is over 125 ft of 4gauge and 30 ft of 1/0, hell I added 100 lbs of wire alone [smilie=071.gif]
oh yeah, all the speaker runs [smilie=tongue025]

Christian

I thought you got a heater?
I did but it only warms it up about 20 degrees from ambient, so from 6 to 26 still SUCKED, this week I am much happier

Christian,I have heaters! If you need them, let me know. Free of charge, with propane. The one burning in my garage makes it t-shirt weather in about 5 minutes. Of course that is what 500,000 btus will do in a 30x30 garage.

I am having a helluva time trying to make my wire runs nice & pretty. I cant seem to find any epoxy, glue, etc that allows my wire rings to stay fastened to the inside of the fiberglass. Any recommendations?
Christian
03-02-2006, 02:03 PM
I used screws and attached the rings with 10 x 1/2" stainless into either wood or fiberglass support structures that were allready there on the starboard side, on the port side there were glassed in rigging rings that i used
It may be easier to silicone or marine (flexible) epoxy in a 1" x 3/4" x whatever lenght will fit strip of marine plywood or pressure treated plywood where you want to run the wires and then screw the rings into that strip, if one does not exist

Hmm, didnt think of that. i may give that a try if worse comes to worse.

Christian

I did neon since I had it lying around, but I used LED tubes to light the cockpit area

this is what I used

Are the LED lights difficult to install in the cockpit?
