he is out on the east side. He is a regular on the site. He probably will need a new system in his new toy so T38 you could have a weekend stereo installation party.

As long as we're on the subject (stereo ups) I'd like to up the stereo in our new ride since the original factory one sounds like chit. My goal is not music for the entire lake or cove, but something that at least sounds decent for reasonable cost.
From a few web searches I've done, it looks like there are some basic marine receivers out there that are available that could be had with 2-4 speakers for the $200-300 range (50Wx4). I'm seeing names like Pyle, Dual, Boss, Sony, Kenwood, Clarion (mo $$). I don't want to put in an amp, just something basic that has a CD and sounds better than the stereo cassette that is in there now.
One thing I noticed is that Pyle has a unit that has Weather band included in the receiver which seems like a good feature to have (or should it be a separate dedicated weather radio?).
Any thoughts appreciated, thx!

A head unit probably only puts out about 15x4 rms. So when you want more vol, your cd will still sound like chit cause of all the distortion. I just bought the Kenwood MP400MR, its about $250 or so. Now adding 2 amps for subs & coaxs. I think you can probably add an amp for less than you think & would be much happier w/ your sound.
