i knew you pervs would look.

i'm detailing the boat this weekend and was planning on waxing the running surface. i've read somewhere on this forum that this will actually cause a decrease in top end performance. is this true?

if you're not supposed to wax the underside of the hull, what do you use for protection? is there a special cleaner/protectant that won't cause a decrease in top end?

your correct on the loss of top end performance, but the wax is a good protectant, im sure you wont notice the loss, unless your going for a world record kilo run and every 1/10th of a MPH counts! [smilie=042.gif]

i used to wax the bottom of my crownline 225 ccr because it was all red and i wanted to keep it that way, i had the 350 mag and it would run the same all day long 58mph freshly waxed or not!

plus i would probably think that one good pass across the lake and all the wax would be stripped off of it anyway!

Actually, we wax most of the bottoms of the boats that we detail. In the racing ciruit, it's kind of mixed. Some do; some don't. As a pleasure boater, you will probably not notice a difference. If you do, waxing the bottom to avoid "stuff" sticking to it, will far outweigh the decrease in speed.

For a pleasure boat I would wax it. My bottom was sanded before I bought it for the Power Boat mag 100mph shootout and it looks like someone dragged it on a beach.

i sanded the bottom of my boat (was an old river boat and was beached alot. the bottom needs to be blueprinted any way) and got 2 mph out of her. or it could of been the fact that it was 15 degrees cooler [smilie=265.gif]
