Or topless boating chics, whoever wants to respond...

What is the word on waxing the underside of one's boat? I got a little carried away with the Frenzy tonight, and did the whole damn thing, laying on my back on a creeper in the shop. Not the most fun, but I digress.

Did I just waste my time and my Waxing Frenzy, or did I do a good deed to my machine and thereby myself?

If waxing the underside ( ) of the boat mind you... is a good thing, then how often should it be done? How quickly does the wax wear off in the water, etc? I wasn't able to find out much on this topic.

If you are all laughing now, well, perhaps I should take a picture, as it looks really good  and that is the only way the waxed bottom will last.

TIA

Jim

It doesn't help with speed because it acts as a lubricant for the water therefore allowing less air for lift on plane. It surely can't hurt for longevity of the gel-coat and cleanliness! A clean boat is a happy boat! Unless you were going for a speed record! [smilie=265.gif]

Speed would have been a nice byproduct, but not really the goal. My primary hole with water in it is fairly dirty, and I was just wanting the hull to stay clean a little easier, but certainly a clean hull, even though slick, will be faster than a hull dragging dirt through the water, no? I don't know how much it will affect speed anyway, as I have a stepped hull, and when up on plane, only a very small amount of the front step even sees water. It pretty much rides on the back step which I couldn't get to as well with the bunk trailer.

So... If not wax, then what is the trick for both protection AND speed?

hmmmmmmm

maybe you should come over and try it on the bottom of my boat, so we can have a comparsion of step vs non step bottoms! I will of course supply the beer, but your creeper won't work to good on the gravel!

it will take away some speed! not really too noticeable though, i used to wax the bottom of my crownline because it was all red and i didnt want it all stained up, ofcourse thats before i knew better,,

im sure if your trying to squeeze out another 1/10th of a MPH it is a bad idea but if your not, then wax away!!
