MN/WI PARTY this July on the river

Seen as how the Miss-Croix has inconveniently been moved out of July and there isn't anything else going on around here in July. Myself and some other river rats where thinking of an unofficial, unorganized, raft up, raft down, tie up, tie down( [smilie=whip] ) PARTY. We are thinking about getting together somewhere on Lake Pepin. That way there is plenty of room for everyone to hang out or run around if they like. Plus there won't be any law enforcement if we stay on the bottom haft. Would anyone like to join in and make this the official MWBP MN/WI summer "hook up"? Maybe a blender contest or two....

House boat rental is approx $400+ fuel for a weekend. Cain can clue us in on that one as GRH has some nice rigs.

Wow $400 is way cheap. You'd have to multiply that by 4 or 5 or 6(depending on size) just to get one ones at Great River Harbor off the dock.

Ok, got out of the wedding on the 23rd (told my brother he was going to have to dj it). Not making the loto trip in July. Wont be able to go again until the shootout (have and entire week off of work for this). Party on the 30th, we are still working on the details for this. Ill let you know more when it gets closer to that time.

Where are you planning to put in at? Without towing, it's a 2 hour drive from Madison to La Crosse. It's probably another hour or so to Lake City if your going to head all the way up there. Otherwise, I'd recommend dropping the boat in Wabasha (probably ~40 minutes from La Crosse).

So depending on how fast you tow, you can figure your time from there.

It was not bad at all.
We put in at 11. Backed right in, and away we went.

About 4 of us motored up to long point to find ... Caincando1 and all the MLPS peeps. [smilie=042.gif]

Tied up on the MN side to get out of the wind for a while. Ate at the imfamous Slippery's, made a run to the locks to find 4 barges and back to the lake for a sunset from heaven.

Pulled out the boat and took in the festivities of Riverboat Days at the park with a live band and 6 beers/$10.

Just talked to Thirsty Turtle. There was about 4 of them from the harbor went up to long point. No one was there, turned around and saw Cain and Saleen at Slipperys. They headed up to the Pioneer to talk poker run with Gary, and wait for the barge. Then headed to lock 5 for that awesome sunset. All that while I am sitting at home being on call for work. So we didn't put in at Wabasha till 4ish. But it made for a nice late afternoon cruise up to the south side of Lake City and back. We were going to head over to the Pickle Factory but didn't want to fight the chop. So we stayed to the west side of the lake and also hit Slipperys on the way back. Probably got there about 7ish. Guess we just missed you guys there. One of these days we'll catch up!!

Yup! That was us! Wasn't sure what your boat looks like... but I thought that sure looked like you driving. [smilie=042.gif] Don't worry about missing us. We were actually JUST getting on the river if you can believe it. We were slow going in the morning and then stopped by to pick up some friends on the way to the water. The MN side of Pepin wasn't bad untill you got above Lake City. The WI side was a whole other beast. Damn, we came all the way down the WI side. Bad idea. :shock: :shock:

I've been planning to be on the river that day for sure and have been debating whether or not to try and run it in my boat. I'm leaning towards entering and just lagging behind all the big boys so we don't get swamped. Not like I could keep up even if I wanted to. :lol:

Are you getting close to your limit of boats? And entry after today is $125 for boat and 2 people, right?

The chop was a little strong out on Saturday but that PQ sliced right through it! 3 of us attempted to raft at long point with little success. Way too many rollers coming in and stressing us out. Took off from there and blasted the lake one more time back down to the south cove. What a change, go from 30 mph wind to nothing in the cove. We saw the GRH boys heading north with Boogyman in the lead.

We also ended at Slipperys for some dinner. The guitar player from Alibi (the band in wabash that night) was hanging out on the patio so we convinced him to play an accustic set for us. It was a blast we would name off songs and he would crank them out.

Fun day capped off with great music

No sweat, after a good day of pounding on the lake like it sounds like you had, the last thing you want to do once you finally hit the channel is turn around and do some more. :mrgreen:
