Well, this marks the beginning of spring for most of us in the MN-WI area along the Upper Mississippi River Valley.
Wed. I saw my 1st Robin ... and ...
Our 1st River Barge(tug) is plowing through Lake Pepin in pool 4 today trying to break the ice. [smilie=appl]
Last I was able to check at 3:15pm, he had made it ~ 1/2 mi. since 8am this morning.
It's all downhill from here. [smilie=071.gif] [smilie=071.gif]

[smilie=071.gif] Spring is when they run the barge up the riverto break the ice on the river and usually marked in parallel with all the stir crazed residents leaving for somewhere traditionally warm. While we're gone the weather warms to the highpoint of the season.

Saleen, this morning I checked the local weather, and spring is here too.
Monday, holy shit - 74 degrees and 51 at night - definite spandex shorts day(sassy) [smilie=061.gif]
Tuesday, ya man - 71 degrees and 49 at night - I will need to get rid of those tan lines from Monday, so Daisy duke shorts day(somebody stop me) [smilie=657.gif]
Sorry my camera battery needs charged, so there will be no pics of Monday and Tuesday, unless the wife gets in a bikini. [smilie=071.gif] [smilie=071.gif] [smilie=071.gif]

Mofocker finally made it through Lake Pepin!!!
The first tug boat of the season is on its way to St. Paul, marking the start of the navigation season.
The Theresa L- Wood locked through Red Wing, Minn. Monday morning after breaking its way through Lake Pepin on the Mississippi River this weekend. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers expects the boat to reach St. Paul Monday afternoon.
The average opening date of the navigation season is March 20. Officials say this year is a little later due to colder weather and thick ice on Lake Pepin

It is good news! [smilie=042.gif]
I saw the ice breaker headin back south this AM and two more tugs in tandem moving North through the lake. [smilie=061.gif]
Hopefully, by the end of next weekend the ice will be out. [smilie=trink39]

It is not officially spring here until the street sweepers come down the street picking up all the sand...
