Anyone have suggestions of a economical sound upgrade for my 27 fever.
I was thinking about just adding amp, sub and a couple more speakers but I've never tried it in a boat. I don't want to spend money if it doesn't improve the sound.

I spent about 450 and really increased my system performance. I added a 12 inch infinity perfect sub which fills out the bottom, but most importantly I put a MTX 895 5 channel amp in. A good amp cleans up your sound quality and allows you to crank existing speakers up higher without distorting. This is a good way to go if you want to do it in phases too. Get the amp first. See how things sound. Then you can replace or add speakers/subs later. FYI that MTX 895 powers the sub on a 2 ohm load with 490 watts, and then does 50 watts per channel to your other 4 speakers.
Whatever you do, overpower! It is easier to blow things from lack of power than it is with too much!

Yes, go with more power amp. Underpower causes distortion, and when amp clips (over-peaks), it damages voicecoils, which is main reason for blown speakers. Make sure to get a rubber or poly type cone. Paper and foam don't work real good around water.

I wouldn't replace current speakers, with the right amp, they will sound great after a sub and crossovers are set.

Sony speakers and amps hold up will in the moist envierment of a boat and sound good. AMER3 is the resident Stereo Pro.

Thanks for the input.
I need to go down and take a look and see what kind of space I have for an amp.
