I'm looking forward to Liquid Jungle this year as well. If I think I can hang with the big dogs without getting swamped, maybe I'll even enter. Otherwise I'll just be buzzing around watching.
Last year myself, my better half and a few other couples were on the river with our Glastron and a Fun 'N The Sun houseboat (highly recommended by the way) that weekdend and were caught by surprise by the Jungle run. It was a pretty cool sight to be caught off guard with.
Since everyone loves pictures, here's a few from last year. I know, I know, this is not last year's thread but I'm going to post them anyway...
Us putting in for the weekend. This dock look familiar to anyone?

Whats it going to be like getting in and out with the water level down? Didn't the DNR decide to drop the water a foot in your pond?

Whats it going to be like getting in and out with the water level down? Didn't the DNR decide to drop the water a foot in your pond?
This will be a long answer because I want everyone to understand why the draw down should not affect the poker run. Now from what I've been told by people that know allot more about this than me. Pool 5 will be dropped 18inches in June. Now we have to understand that the pool isn't level and the water level is actually lower at the bottom end than the top end. When the water leaves the top dam it stays pretty level and only drops a little bit until it hits the "elbow" of the pool. Once it hits the elbow the water starts to drop at a faster rate than above the "elbow". Great River Harbor is located really close to the "elbow". So the pool will be 18 inches lower at the bottom end(lock5a) but it should only drop about 8 inches in Great River Harbor. And this is below the normal water level. And sometime in the middle of summer the water drops below the normal level on it's own. So all in all Great River Harbor will see little impact from the drawn down. If there are any navigation issues with the chute coming back to GRH, I've been told that it will be dredged.
Most of the run is on pool 4 and when we are in pool 5 we are in the main channel other than going in and out of GRH. So it look like the drown down won't be slowing down the poker run a bit.

When you have the date - let one of us (Mods) know so it gets added to the calendar. I'm trying to make this poker run section top notch for our area.
Peeps - When you add events put the date in the topic and make sure you use the calendar feature so they show up during the summer.

You can call The Great River Harbor at (608)248-2454 to see if they have any spots, there is also tent camping or slips. be sure to tell them that you are with the poker run. If that does not work give me a call at (507)951-7960 and I will get you some more #s. A 20 footer would be fine.

Brian,
How are pre-regestrtion numbers looking? Unfortunately this is my official notice that the powerquest will be bowing out this year  The babies will be 35 weeks at that point and momma does not want to take any chances of them coming out during the run, however that would make one heck of a story!
For the newbies coming this year, have a blast it is a first class run operation, heck you never know, I may show up trying to thumb a ride from someone.

Well.... we may not be able to make the Liquid Run next month. We found out last night that Ms Sea has to have surgery. She has to have her gall bladder removed. She has an appointment with the surgeon Tuesday and hopefully we will find out when her surgery is to be performed. From what we are hearing there is a recovery time of a week or two with this procedure. We will keep you all posted of what happens and plans.

I have done the miss croix twice. And if it ends up on a different date then ours next year, The mrs and I will more then likely go again. As to which one I like better, I might be a little bias there. just read my signature below.

1 - GRH
2 - Lake Pepin
3 - Red Wing?
4 - ?
5 - GRH ?
I can't remember for sure what they were last year. Anyway, if I'm going to get in on this thang, I need to plan out my fuel stops ahead of time. My 20 gallon tank will only take me so far at WOT.

Are you talking long as in miles or long as in time. We run 80 miles and that is about average or shorter than most of the other big name events. For the Upper Mississippi it a long run. We have very little no wake zone or anything else to slow us down. Plus it's a true poker run, so we are boating most of the time, so we cover the miles pretty quikly. We run a pace boat(including pool 5 this year) so there is no confusion or congestion.

I'm planning on being out that day and will probably try to get some still shots as the parade flys by. Might even get a buddy on the camcorder. I don't think I want to get in the middle of the run and try to take photos at the same time though. Me, my boat and my camera would probably be safer on shore... or at least off to the side.
If I get any good shots/footage, I'll be sure and let you guys know.
If you know ahead of time any locations you'd like a photographer on the water... lemme know, maybe I can help out. I'm no pro, but have a decent camera that helps me take some good shots sometimes.....

Our still camera photographer told me he just went and bought a 1 gig card for his camera. I have no idea what that means, but it must be good. He's PUMPED!!!
Hmmmm, hopefully that's not his only card. I've got a 1 GB card for my cam too and was thinking I better go get another one if I'm gonna be out taking pictures of you guys.
I've got a bit of an itchy trigger finger though, so I take a LOT of shots. I'm of the mindset... if I take enough shots, I'm bound to get a couple good ones.
So, I've been thinking about this and wondering what the best locations are for shooting from the water? I'd like to be set up on the north side of the lock so I can capture the Miami Vice scene leaving the lock. But I'd also like to be up in Lake Pepin to catch the grand prix start after the card stop. I don't think I can do both though. I'll need to pick one. I'm leaning towards being at the lock, since getting shots of the start in Lake Pepin would probably be pretty hard from the water anyway. I think that's better for the helicopter to get.
If I do the lock scene, then I should be able to trail behind everyone and get up to Lake Pepin in time to get shots of the lead boats on the return. Which leads me to this question.... how long does it take the lead boats to get up to the north lake pepin card stop and back to the south side?
Another thought I had was hanging out on Lake Pepin and offering photo ops to anyone wanting drive by shots of them in their boats. I know I've heard people whining they never get any decent photos of them in their boats (you know who you are [smilie=265.gif]   ). Not sure how well that would work out though, since everyone's probably racing to get down to the Pioneer Club......

Amateur. He's a fellow boater from Park Side named Bart. Cool azz dude. He does it all for fun. I have no idea what his camera is but the photos last year a crystal clear and HUGE. I had to do some MAJOR cropping and reducing to get them on the web sites. They don't look nearly as good after I hacked them. I'm not sure how big each picture file size was but the pictures where 3 times the size of my moniter. And he took over 100 of them last year. He said he wanted more memory so he could take more. So he said he got a new 1 gig videocard.
As for you, do whatever workd best. How long will it take Garys 50 hustler with trip 1200's to run 20 miles, stop for a card and run 20 miles back. Well take 40 miles divided by whatever he runs. Must be 120-130 at least. Needless to say it won't be long. You will have a lot of time to catch up while we are stopped at the bottom of pepin for the card stop. But I will warn you. The main cannel will be rough if you try and follow all those boats.

As for following up behind everyone, yeah, I'll have to be careful. Shouldn't be a problem though if I'm smart about it. Last year I was able to get up to the card stop behind everyone no problem. I've been thinking about that and getting plans finalized for the weekend with my co-pilot. How much room do you guys have at your site? Would you have room for another tent if we decided to get sloshed and have a sleep-over? Of course I'd have to clear that with this guy and both our wives first too.

If nothing else I may have to drive down and sleep on Cain's step to keep the coyote's away.

JUST A REMINDER to anyone who is making a weekend out of the event. Great River Harbor has upgraded their food menu to a offer a wide range of food. Everything from biscuits and gravy or omelets for breakfast to prime rib and shrimp for dinner. In the past they only has a limited menu and the food wasn't nearly as good as it is now.
Also remember that we will be stopping for lunch Sat during the poker run and of course we will be having a hog roast and sweet corn and all that good stuff after the run.
