The wife and I are going to check out some new lakes this year and I need some help. [smilie=050.gif]

We will be on Lake Eufaula Friday July 15, 2005 and I need some thing to do/check out. How many days can/should I plan on hanging out on the lake? Will the GPS be fine on the lake or should I get a map?

Then we are off to Texoma- same questions. How many days, good place to stay, etc. I think we will be here during the week.

Next stop if Lake Travis, Texas. I need info on where to stay, etc.

Last stop is Houston to hook up with some friend and play in the Gulf/Bay. How big of a deal would it be to back my trailer in salt? It's a steel Eagle trailer, can I take a 25 Outlaw in the Gulf or would that be crazy or just depend on the conditions?

Love to meet people from these areas if you are going to be around or if anyone wants to hook up and travel with us that's fine as well. So far Cindy and Trevis are going to go for sure - I'll take lots of pictures

Eddie I don't believe there is much to do at Eufaula you might consider Grand. There is a bunch of Texas people on partyboating.com you might ask some of them about the Texas lakes. Isn't Lake Pirate from Texoma? Sounds like a hell of a trip, should be fun.

Eufaula is kind of a mini LOTO. 1 day would be plenty to explore the lake. they do have a nice beach area called the "cut" that you should check out.
also , one of the marinas has some tree stumps just below the water line "so ive been told" so you might avoid that one.

Let me know what week you'll be at Texoma and we'll try to hook up.
Places to stay- Texoma Lodge in Kinston, OK or Tanglewood in Pottsboro, TX are the most popular places. Tanglewood is at Lowes Highport where most of the action is at. Very close to the islands. The lodge is at the north end of the lake closer to Lake pirates place. Its about a 30-40 min boat ride to the islands depending on speed and water conditions. Our current place is close to the lodge, but its for sale, we also have a lot close to Buncombe creek so I'm not sure where our pad will be in July. Kinda depends on if our current place is sold or not. I'll chime in with more info as it gets closer.
As for Eufaula - I dont know chit about this lake.

Thanks, I guess TOPPS is having a poker run on Lake Conroe the 22 - 23, but you have to be a member to attend.

What is it with this membership chit? Being a devoted boater should be enough

Keep the info coming!

Lake Eufala is a good time during the poker runs. The cut is a cool place to hang out down there. Eddie I don't know if you ever get on Offshoreonly but "blown formula" is from there and he has a cool house on the lake that we visit when we go there. A map will be just fine there. We always have a good time there.

BTW Grand Lake is having the Ugly John's Poker Run on July 16th if you are going to be down that way.

I live in Houston and am a little new to the forum-I was sent here by a friend from Donzi.Net and live in houston-putting your boat in the bay or gulf shouldnt be a problem there are just two major factors to be aware of corrosion and hazards to navigation as far as your trailer and your Baja go just make sure you was down any metals surfaces and maybe scrub your deck with soap when you get home - also for a steel trailer just bring it to a drive through carwash and spray the hell out of it-especially around the wheels and brakes --then make sure to flush your engine thoroughly---Im prob not telling you anything you dont know--one trip to the Gulf will not hurt your boat---my engines only get spoiled with fresh water once or twice a year-but I flush them everytime they go in the salt. as for navigation-your boat is plenty big-just be carefull lots of stuff to hit in the bay---try ClearLake--its just south of Houston-it connects to the gulf and has one of the largest concentrations of boats Ive ever seen-(Short of Ft. Lauderdale)

A lot of people won't touch a boat if they know it's been anywhere near salt water. I'm all for checking out new bodies of water but i'd just go for a ride in someone else's boat before putting mine in the salt water. Found this after a quick search...

-----------------

You've Got 20 Minutes...

To flush your engine after use in salt water. Or...Risk serious long term expensive corrosion damage.

Flushing your marine engine within 20 minutes of use in salt water is the most effective method to prevent internal engine and mechanical corrosion.
This is because after 20 minutes your pulling your boat out of the water your engine temp will lower to a point that the thermostat will likely not open (even after re-starting at idle) leaving salt water in the majority of internal water passages.

In additon chemical bonds occur between the salt, heat and metal that
deteroriate your internal engine parts and your investment. Salt water corrosion is a nasty problem. Once the boat is out of the water, the sacrificial anode on the lower unit quits working because the electrolytic connection is gone, and the pools of salt water get trapped in the lower unit and engine block start their own corrosion cells.

---------------

Sounds like a lot of ass pain for a jaunt in the gulf to me but hey it's your vacation and your boat man! Enjoy.

Eddie - just a thought......

We're having a transmission cooler put on our truck. When pulling the boat in high heat (i.e. - July, when you're going on this trip), there is always the possibility of overheating. Your truck is bigger than ours so you probably don't have to worry about it as much. But, since it is a long drive, and a lot of weight to pull so far, it's just a thought. Wish you guys were going earlier - we're going to TX in late May and boating on Lewisville Lake.

The 3/4 ton Ford has the cooler on it already - and I don't think I'm going to use my truck for this run. Going to borrow a diesel for the trip
