Has anybody ever used one of these outside? It is like what they use in restraunts.

Have a little experience with them. Were you thinking about using it in place of a traditional gas grill?

It is not designed for "outside" use. Do you have a structure it will be in? You will have the smoke issue if kept inside...when you cook red meat(especially hamburger) you will have alot of smoke. If you plan on keeping it in storage and using it only in nice weather, you will have the hassle of the hookups.

I used to use a kettle with lump HOT to sear Q at contests for anything goes, that look a LOT easier, would make a for a very nice presentation after the cook, sear the grill marks on for the guests, I like the idea
would also work well for Tuna etc that need to be very hot and very fast

Should work fine outside but you wouldn't want to store it out side, but put on a cart with a LP tank on the bottom it should work fine, and then stored in the garage or a shed, most units like that come with LP orfices and all you have to do is change them and the regulator can be convertrd to LP by taking the cap off and flipping the plastic inset over, also you want to be able to use the LP tank standing up.
It will rust up pretty good if not protected.
If it is new when you first start it up season the grates by putting oil on them and fire it up and let it burn the oil off and it will leave a coating like an iron skillet would have.
