We are planning our first trip to the Shootout this year and expect to be racing in it as well. I've read the website and rules ect...

Looking to book room at the Deep Water Inn as it's about as close as you can get to Capt Rons. They still have some.

Need info on Dockage or ramps to use and any other TidBits of knowlege from you locals. I'd prefer to sleep on the boat but need showers. Hotel for the kids.

How about a run down of Dos and Don't for the first timers?

Thanks in advance!
Mark:)

I'm also unclear on the starting line procedure... on plane? speed limit?
Thanks again.

Mark,

Sounds like they are moving the starting line this year. It's going to run the opposite way from what I've been told. Public Beach #2 has boat slips, showers and plenty of hotels close for the kids. It would be about 18 miles by water from C Rons.

I think last year you did a on plane start and the speed was different for cats v v bottoms, but someone else would know more about that than me.

Last year you got to be on plane but no more than 30 or 35 MPH, i don't remember for sure, they have a radar gun at the line and deduct from your speed if you are over.

Lots of complaints so I expect it will change. It was hard to stay on plane for most boats at that speed.

You check in at the start boat, they tell you who you folllow, then go ask them who they follow so you can be geared up and ready to go. As you approach the start there will be a guy with a flag on the start boat, when he drops it your good to go.

Good info. I thought it was 30mph for everyone, but I could be wrong on that.

Here's one of my runs from last year to give you an idea. I left it unedited to give a better idea of wait time.

Great info guys. Nice video too. How fast?
I assume only the big boys score a dock at Capt Rons? I could walk to my hotel from there...

Running under the bridge at 200mph would be like threading a needle for the big boys...
Not an issue for me at @80 something.

Thanks for the replys!

I ran 73 in the NV2S2 class.

What are you running for power in your Velocity? Dig the flames. Reminds me of some of Kunkels machines.

I will be in the same class but Modified. I have mild 454's 30 over w/Merlin heads. I'll be underpowered for a Mod boat but... I jus wanna race! I drag raced motorcycles for 20 yrs and miss it. I am trying to get it ready for OPA. I hope to be low to mid 80's when done with the heads.

I should have this pic in the Garage section. 30lbs of shi p in at 20lb bag...

lol Nice.

As you probably know, Team Kansas ran 85 in the NV2M2 class last year with their small block-powered 28' Saber. I believe they were the only boat running in that class.

Can a guy just show up, pay the entry fee and run? I might be the slowest boat there, but looks like fun.

Yes...and it is fun

All you need is a helmet, 100 mph impact rated life jacket
and pass their safety inspection ( kill switch working, etc)
and your good to go

Is the cable steering going to be a problem?

Looking forward to it! Emilsr, unless you just want to buy a 5-700 jacket... there are some legal ones available for under 100 bucks. Mustang makes one...

UD88, I have to ask.. How did you get the boat in the garage?

It was a challenge... van/come along at rear man door. Truck/trailer backed in as far as poss. Floor/bottle jack/blocks and 2 furnature dollys and a full afternoon. 8 foot door and 8 foot beam+ rub rail. I had to remove all wood from the door frame then chissel some block away for clearance.

Took me 2 bottles of wine[smilie=trink39]

... but I know I'm a Hillbilly!

It was a challange but well worth it to be able to work all winter in my lil ol garage in a t shirt.[smilie=trink39]

Now I gotta figure out how to get it out soon.

I just signed up and paid my fee for 2 runs. Helmet is at the ready but I still need to get a proper PFD.

Hopefully I can at least break through the 60mph "barrier". In the immortal words of Alan Shepherd: "Please God don't let me f-up."
