I am thinking of putting the underwater LEds on the back of our boat under the platform. Does anyone have them and have you had any problems with the hole you drill leaking water, I know you seal them but if its unwater all day will the seal start leaking after a year or so. Or would you put them above the water line? Also post some pics if you have them. Also at $200 each for the small one would you do one or two, I was thinking two

Thanks

We have quite a few different models of LED underwater lighting to choose from including the ones you are looking at for a bit cheaper of a price. http://www.firstchoicemarine.com/search.aspx?SearchTerm=underwater+led+lighting&CategoryID=0&ManufacturerID=0&SectionID=0&Order=0&PageSize=20 . Let me know if you find anything you like and I can help you out.

Some red ones would look good coming out the back of your boat.

Yes, don't try and install them while the boat is in the water!!

Think about the water you boat in. If the lights are mounted much lower than 12" below the surface, they may have minimal effect. Closer to the surface may prove more practical. I agree that the underwater LED's are a cool concept and have an impact at night as long as the water is clear enough.

I was thinking more like under my swim platform, which is about 3"-4" from the water on a Fastech Formula.
I'm not even sure if they could be put in there with the Silent Thunder exhaust setup the Formula's have.

And thanks for the tip not to drill underwater with my corded drill, I'll be sure to use my cordless one.

Im sure I could find a friend down there to install them for you when you get them. Is it on a trailer or will they have to come to you?

I was thinking about 2 red ones but with the water really dark around here I dont know if I would put them under the water, I might not get but a couple of feet of light so I was thinking above the water line, but then you dont get the same look. I would like the bigger ones but at $$$ I might have to settle for the smaller ones. If I had clear water these would be a must have item I think they are awsome looking behind the boats

That was big on the cruisers in Florida a few years back and we seen a few boats with them its pretty neat if the water is clean. So we though we would install them on our cruiser at LOTO so we hung one in the water and it not light up the water as they did in Florida where the water was cleaner, so we never did install them.

Are they legal, or would this give Jonny Law something else to pull us over for, along the same lines would it be legal to mount some leds lights inside the vents along the back sides of the boat???

As I understand it, they're illegal to have on only while underway: docked no problem. Lights mounted in the vents on the backside would confuse an oncoming boater. My guess is that the CG is pretty stearn about lights other than nav and anchor lights.

In my opinion, not worth the added reason to pull you over at night, beers or no beers.

I need to get the steps & pad installed before the led's. wonder how good they would look at table rock? course there are no docks there so would never get used.

I would put a switch on them because they wouldn't do much underway anyway, they're probably only worth a darn when you're docked.
That's why I would want them under my swim platform, because of the murky water at the LOTO.

Im sure it is just like having underglow lights on your car. They are fine while not in motion but as soon as you are moving they can pull you over. On the lights in the side vents the new Pantera has green (I beilve) lights emitting from the side of the hull. They look pretty sharp but im not sure if they would fly at LOTO. As holy smokes said it will prob just be another excuse to pull you over but they do look cool.

No trailer, it's on my hoist all year, around the corner from Tan-tar-a, I never wanted to own a vehicle big enough to haul it, plus I hate driving.

Mybe it would just be something to kick on while your parked at the bar to look cool. Then youd have to remember to shut them off.

Murkey green water just isn't worth making glow and attracting bugs IMHO but they do look cool in blue water, also great for night diving to help find the boat again.

Would suggest white ONLY, displaying red or green or any other color while at anchor is a NO NO, White underway at the stern should be OK with the CG though since stern steaming lights are kosher in addition to the 360' anchor light.

Last summer a boat went past us and it had one maybe two bright lights in the transom. Is that legal?

Have been looking at these for a couple of years too...just never pulled the trigger. Last year I did see a newer cruiser docked at Franky and Louie's with 2 white ones on. Water looked murky but it still looked pretty cool IMHO.
