I have a nice 35mm camera with a couple different lenses. I would like to buy a Digital camera that my lenses will work with. Does anyone know if they make one and what is the model number? My camera now is a Minolta Maxxum QTsi. Or does this camera have any kind of a resale value?

Sony bought Minolta. There is a good chance that your lenses will work on one of the newer Sony DSLRs. With this said, I would be more inclined to purchase a Canon or Nikon DSLR. They hold the majority of the market, have better 3rd party support and have a wider range of lenses and accessories for less money than the Sony/Minolta. Your call though.

Regarding resale price of your camera, I hate to say it, but it isn't going to be really high. Some high school students are still required to use 35mm although I am not sure why at this point. You will get some value due to this.

I figured it was not worth anything. I have went and checked out the Sony's what do you think about the A100? Remember that I don't know alot about camera's. I just want a camera that I can change the lens on for far away shoots.

I personally have a Nikon D80 with multiple lenses ( I love it) but canon makes a tremendous camera too. JJ here on the site has one that takes good distant pictures. He took a pic of me at a good distance (thread was turkeys on lake ) I have taken pics of OSS and shootout with 70-300 mm lens all turned out great. You can get some really good deals on both brands! Sony has received great reviews, but I have little experience.

My mom was a photographer for years and she had the minolta maxxum 7000's and the lenses for them will work on the new sony digitals. They bought a sony to use with all the lenses she had. Not sure on your model though if they interchange or not.

I've got a Canon Rebel XT that I absolutely LOVE. I also just bought my second Canon Video Camera... this one being HD even. Personally, Canon is the way to go... just my .02

The A100 is a little old right now. If you want a Sony, I would lean toward one of the newer ones.

Here is a review of the A100...

Will the lenses off my 35 mm work as good as the lenses that come with a new A300K? I have a stock lense and a 70 - 210 mm that I would like to use and just buy the camera only. I found the camera only for $362.00 including shipping.

When you say you want to take some far away photo's what exactly do you want to take photo's of? If your subject looks far away with your naked eye, it's still far away with your lens. As an example, if you watched the Olympics, every now and then they showed the photographers box, and you saw the big lenses. those are 300 and 400mm, 2.8 lenses and the subjects they are shooting weren't that far away. Yes, it brings them in closer but they want to be able to get certain parts within the frame. They really aren't shooting far away subjects. To do that requires even longer lenses like 500, 600 and even 800mm and unless your willing to mount them on a tripod with a Wimberley head, your shots are going to probably be from a little blurry to a lot blurry. those types of lenses aren't hand holdable. Then you have the cost factor. As an example, you can get a 70-300, f4.5-5.6 for around $500. Just remember you can't use this lens in low light. At 300mm your at f5.6. Now if you want to be able to shoot in low light and still be able to hand hold, a 300 f2.8 can be had for about $5000.

Just something to think about. :mrgreen:

100' to 300' away of a moving target.

100' to 300' away of a moving target.

100-300' = Long lens
moving = fast lens

Long + fast = EXPENSIVE! As Sea Esta said, you can find cheap mammoth zoom lenses, but if you have a moving target, with a big unsteady lens, you're doing to need very fast glass, something in the 2.8 range plus good image stabilization and that's where the money starts to come in.

There are several places online that will let you rent lenses to try them out. Might be worth it before plunking down a wad of cash on something you haven't tried.
