I've had people tell me to use a vinegar and water mixture on water spots. I was wondering if anyone on here had used it? My biggest concern was on my diamond tread on the trailer and the SS cleats and handles on the boat. If you have used it what percent mixture did you use? Any precautions?

Also I've got some real light rub marks on the black painted band on my boat from my fenders rubbing. Its not real bad but was just curious if anyone had any secrets to getting rid of these?

Thanks for all of your help guys...everyone had been extremely helpful with all of my stupid questions.

Thanks again,
Doogie

Doogie there are no stupid questions, only stupid people who ask questions:mrgreen: jk. I have used the vinegar/water trick on my waverunner and it works great. I mixed it at 50/50. The waverunner is mostly black and looked brand new after the rubdown. Good luck

We found a mixture that is one step further. Mix Vinegar and windshieldwasher fluid in a 50/50 ratio. Works great on our all black boat.

Be careful of the aluminum diamond tread on the trailer, Harsh cleaners like greased lightning can really mess up the aluminum. I also use 50-50 vinegar and water in between waxing to get off the water spots. I guess it could be called boat douche.

We wipe down the Cobalt with a Vinegar and Water solution after every time out..... even if it's only going to be on the trailer for an hour. Not sure what the ratio is, but I'd bet it's close to 50/50. Does a wonderful job of removing water spots.

Ok, so I asked my Dad and on his 22 foot Cobalt, we use 50/50 vinegar and water. It gets all of the water spots off and if you do it right after you pull it out it works the best but if you wait until you get home then it still works too.

About the rub marks, my dad said to use Marine Wax - Meguiars.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

The best thing I have found for water spots is Hot Sauce by Boat Bling. I have used the vinegar/water before. The hot sauce works better and gets rid of the spots and acts contains a little spray wax as well. A little pricey but goes a long way.

Vinegar will strip, so be sure to rePolish/Wax. It will pull what's on the surface including the UV Protection in your current brand.

We had a 3 month old coat of Polish on the Peppers OSS boat at Havasu. We pulled it after testing, wiped in down with a damp towel and it was spot free. I know some bodies of water have more alkaline and deposits, but water and a towel has worked for us. I polish the Pepper's boat 2 times per year and it takes me thirty minutes.

You just put that coat of wax on Doogie. It still should repel, but then most waxes only last a month or two because of the ingredients. Listen, I'm not trying to sound like a record player, but I do this for a living and I'm recommending what I've developed that works. If it didn't work Marine Clean would be out of business.

My Oxidation Remover will take care of the marks, transom soot, old glass water spots with a non scratch pad and numerous other chit that happens when we boat. ;)
Also, after you get the marks off and repolish then purchase some fender covers. They're worth the investment and on black for sure! I'm also not saying be a d*ck about who you tie up to, but being particular might save you some headaches. Your fender covers will also ensure that your protected!

I like Ducky for water spots and any chalky residu that the drive showers dont handle. I agree with the Vinegar and water trick but if you are in really hard water, that mix wont even touch it. Good luck

Ewe, sediments from lake ( i aint gonna mention any particular one) water can be a bi**h to remove. We too use V & W mixture 50/50 everytime we get off the water, works very well. For the bumper scuffs we us MR CLEANS Magic Eraser, on the stainless steel as well. Pretty slick shi*. Today the Moody Blue got a complete Detailing so i think we pretty safe with the concern of rewaxing, so far!!! Hey, Talk about shine!!! :coolgleamA:

I have a black and red boat. I use about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of vinegar in a quart and 1/2 of water in a spray bottle. Lightly spray sides right after coming out of water. Wipe down with a soft towel. This mixture works and does not seem to remove wax until 5 or 6 cleanings.

I polished my boat with Leverage and a wet terry cloth towel takes the lake munge off just fine.

I wash and brush my all white boat with starbrite and it always looks great, but I wipe the hull off completely with a clean towel when I'm done scrubbing it. It's a pain to do this after the PC and some beer in me, but the next day when I get in it, it looks like a new boat. No spots at all.
Nobody said owning a boat was easy or cheap.
