I have a 1991 21' Maxum and the paint is not horrible but probably has seen better days. I was wondering if anyone knew of anyplace that painted boats in my sourounding area (Sioux City IA). Also approx. prices for getting a boat of that size painted.

Unless the gel is very bad with sever damage then you can make it look like new with some good heavy cutting compound and an orbital polisher. If it is very faded you can hit it with a good hand wet sanding with 800 - 1000 grit paper, You could use a DA sander if you were very good and light with it, but remember the gel coat is 22 mils thick, I just did mine by hand and drank lots of beer. Follow it up with some 3M Super Duty Heavy Cutting compound on a wool wheel, next use n 3M Perfect-it II fine compound to take out the scrathes from the heay cutting , finally hit it with 3m Finesse-it II finishing polish on a foam pad and it will look like it came off the showroom floor. Your local automotive store that carries 3M should have all of the stuff you need.
Mine was pretty bad when i drug it home, but after a long weekend of the above treatment I was happy with the results.

Yeah that does look amazing. I did buff it with a few different compounds when i got it and it loked good for a few weeks. After a few weeks it was sun faded again and no amount of wax could keep this from happeneing. It is a dark burgudy and really noticible the spots that keep sun fading or oxidizing. Also the guy before me put some kind of roll on boat bottom paint (looks like bedliner paint) on and it is chipping away slowly. I would really like to invest in a new paint job if this would fix my fading problem. Am I looking at over 5 grand you think?

As long as you don't go with any wild graphics you'll stay under $5k easy. I would guess if you just wanted the hull sides redone to the color looking good it would be around $2K or so. Thats just a guess and about what I would charge going off your discription of the boat. Now if you want the bottom paint stripped off and redone back to white thats gonna run you some money at most places. Send a PM to user name Eichhoma, he had the bottom paint removed last fall from his 32 Mach1 fo under $1500 if I remember correctly. I did work on his boat and his fathers and talked to him about doing the bottom but when he told me the quote he got from the other place I told him to use them. Sanding/removing bottom paint is a nasty job and I wouldn't touch it for that kind of $$$$!
