Is there any good places to anchor out, and watch? Think of making a run down there that weekend.

the race is ran right down the side of the main channel of the lake so everyone ties up and watches from the water, its a really good time!

OR make friends with a big cruiser with a large anchor otherwise you spend most of your time trying to keep your boat (and the line your attached to) from drifiting into the lines with big cruisers holding them steady. Just my experience.

We always throw out 2 anchors, one being the box anchor. If you want an anchor that holds, that's the one. However, you still have to constantly watch out for those who are trying to stay put with a too small anchor. Pit, did you buy a new anchor? [smilie=265.gif]
Bring at least 100 feet of rope. My 50 foot anchor doesnt cut it there.

100 feet? I've thrown out the anchor near the shoreline directly across the channel from Shooters and had at least 120' go down before it hit! Not much left on a 150' anchor line. Surprisingly it held.

Most people at the lake do not know much about anchoring. A rule is to have three times as much rode(rope) as the depth of water you are in. The other thing is to have a good 10' chain to hold the rode down(very imporant).

The box anchor people claim you dont need a chain, and I have found it to be true with my box anchor. And MoAllen is correct with all the other styles you do a lot better with a length of chain attached to the anchor. It was so hot last year and touph to stay anchored in the lines, I gave up and went to Dorseys, sat at the bar and watched the shoot out on direct access cable. Then still too hot at the outdoor bar so went back to Heron Bay and watched on tv in the AC. I gues by that late in the season I had had enouph heat and sun.
