I love Captain Morgan and have tried a lot of other rums on the market....

A couple weeks ago I bought a bottle of Trader Vics and it seems to be smoother than my "fav"......

How come I had never heard of it?????? It says on the bottle it is made in Minnesota and has been around since 1934........

Some of the other rums I like are Ciclon' which I cant seem to find any more, I can drink Bacardi but I have to use lime when I drink it.......

I have done the Saylor Jerry, Admiral Nelson (not to be confused with the father nelson) and various other knock offs of Capt Morg.....I seem to get a hangover with them......

I do like the Kuya........

I do not care for any Appletons products and the Cruzan I can take or leave....

Is there any other good rum out there that might be equivalant to the tastes of my favs????????

I have come to find that 3 cases of Diet Coke a weekend for the last 15 years is not all that healthy, I am having some minor stomach issues and looking for alternatives.......mixers and rum.........I have been using Minute Maid light (a coca cola product) and seem to be getting better results with my stomach..........

Confused in Iowa (and very very very very very very BORED on a snowy Saturday)

I dont like Pina Colada part of the PIA at all.............I do however like just the rum runner part of it. I can only get through about one of them. They are too filling.....

Kary we will have to try that some night....I used to make strip and go nakeds until we had an "issue" in the boat one day.......It was not near as bad as the JJ Juice day but close.......I did lose a head unit over the deal....

I really like somthing simple so I dont spend all my time mixing and packaging before I go out........

Adam, we are coming down next weekend and will bring the "MamaWanna" with us. We also have a bottle of Brugal Rum we will bring.

Kelly's Port was going to take boat out of storage yesterday but the weather changed our minds. Scheduled now for next Friday.

Trader Vic's, huh. Need to give it a go. I've become quite fond of a good Gin 'n Tonic...pretty damn refreshing on a hot day and doesn't make me feel like chit the next morning like the coke mixin's.

We got a couple of free bottles of Saylor Jerry's on a poker run and felt like I got hit with a Mack Truck the next day [smilie=106.gif]

I still enjoy some Capt and cherry coke! ;)

I used to do Bacardi & Coke, but the coke was ruff on my stomach as well. I switched to Bacardi & Sprite and eventually Bacardi Limon & Sprite as my "regular" drink. A lot easier on the stomach. You might want to cut back on the diet coke and try using some Sprite Zero with your Capt.

I made the switch to Captain Morgan recently and have noticed my stomach feels like crap the next morning as well. I switched to Bacardi and diet 7-up?

If you can find it, Tortuga Rum is fantastic. It's made in the Caymans and is VERY smooth. Pretty strong stuff so drink responsibly. We would make a lil concoction with the rum with:

Tortuga, or Cruzan Light (Amount depends on size of cup and time of day)
Juice of half a lime
Couple of drops of Angostura Bitters
Diet Tonic Water over Ice

Really light and refreshing but give the Tortuga a try.

Love Trader Vics! Their spiced rum is so good, and doesn't affect me the next day me like Capt Morgan. A bit cheaper also! If you like dark rum, theirs is very good also.

Here's a great recipe I found last year, and our group has been eating this up!

Lg bottle of Trader Vics DARK rum
Lg bottle of V8 Splash - tropical blend
Lg bottle of 7-Up
Lg container of Orange Juice.

Not kidding ,this is the best tropical punch I've had. Makes a great tiki/luau party theme drink, very refreshing!

Oh,right, you were asking about Trader Vics -I'm from Minnesota and I still can't find it everywhere either!

I'll second Tortuga! You're right about being hard to find though...

I had to switch to Captain Morgan's Silver and Coke Zero as my main drink. If I drink the brown CM, my stomach feels like hell the entire next day.

...and the Cruzan I can take or leave....

I've got no suggestions for you. But speaking of Cruzan, I am going to St Croix in a couple weeks.

And I'm with 400SS - take and post some pics!

If you like Darker Rums try Pyrat, kinda like a solid, easier going Myers. Also, try Cpt. Morgan 'Silver' Spiced Rum and Sprite...probably the only rum I like. Whalers is another good one that has several different flavors. And if you haven't tried some of the Bacardi Flavored's you should. I dare you to try Bacardi O,7up, splash of OJ; and not like it... I dare you! Bacardi Limon and Sprite also quite tasty. Club Soda is another option as a mixer for all of these as well. I prefer part soda, part 7up.

What was that drink that you, Gina, Mellisa made about 3-4 years ago at your place that had that one stuff that Mellisa brought down with her. It was in a large container that you mixed your Capt and maybe something else. I'm not much into a smoothy type of drink but that was the best I have ever had. Cindy liked it as well. I think she had 2-3 and she was nearly walking on all fours.

Ahhhhh Yes the day Eddie nearly burned down the joint..........

That is a smoothie mix from Brueggers Bagels that Jimmy had picked up. It has several different choices for flavors and then you blend it with some crap in a bucket.....I have a bunch of it still......We will have to revisit those next time we get together.................They are GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Paul's Cashsaver on the hill carries Trader Vics. It seemed to be good stuff when I tried it.

Pussers and Clements... have to be some of the top of the line rums.. We only sip those on special occasions or when in Tampa... ie while on vacation live it up!

The new one we discovered the last time in Florida was 10 Cane... they had a tasting party at the bar that night in the hotel.. http://www.10cane.com/

tommy bahama they make a white and dark rum both are the best i have had. the white is very good use it for mojito's and can even shoot it, it is that good. the dark dosent have the spice to it that the cap. has. am a big fan though of private stock, just dont like the way i feel later.

I know I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm sure the amount of alcohol combined w/ the Diet Coke has as much to do with it as anything..... I'm not a doctor, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. [smilie=042.gif]

Better convert over to JJ Juice...less filling, sugar free mixers, a full weeks supply of Vitamin C, and guaranteed no Hangover  just my 2 cents...

FYI...be sure and mix in a fool proof container or one with a screw on lid:twisted:

I here what you are saying, I am just trying one thing at a time. I need to weed out the problems one by one[smilie=crazy] [smilie=crazy] [smilie=crazy]

I was hoping the booze was working on the liver not so much the tummy, I dont think I have so many nerve endings around the ol' protein maker......

Thanks for being the voice of reason.

I hear ya....the 'ole process of elimination! Actually, I heard your stock of alcohol just got a lot larger, so I was hoping I could tap into it if I were to talk you decreasing your weekend consumption! My motives were self centered! ;)

Whatever you decide you should atleast send Capt Morgan a warning. There are potentially lots of jobs at stake if you cut back on the Capt. Guess if the Capt Morgan boat isn't cruising around LOTO this year giving out freebies we'll know you found another drink.
