Hi all - I'm new here. We're planning to boat down to STL for the 4th. Are there any gas docks, restaurants, marinas, below Alton? Thanks!

Welcome! There is only one gas dock just past the JB bridge on the North side in Kimswick. FYI the boating sucks below the locks and is vary dangerous there is no where to tie up and alot of brage traffic I would not recomend it myself. What kind of boat do you have? Twins are a must inorder to be safe, you do not want to lose power and not have a back up [smilie=011.gif]

What would all of you suggest if we want to watch the fireworks for the 4th from the river and camp out for the night? BTW, we have a 20' jon boat with a 90 hp Merc 4 stroke. Thanks!

LB...I would not recommend being on that part of the river at all in a jon boat. Even though river traffic will be closed to barges during the 4th weekend, the water is quick and dangerous. There isn't anywhere to tie up and you would need a very good anchor with quite a bit of rode to hold even a jon boat. Best bet.....Drive to see the fire works..... It's just not save

Just for your info...Our office over looks the arch and I see the river everyday. There's a ton of crap floating in it and being in a small boat, anchored and all of a sudden a tree coming at you.....not a pretty site.

It really is amazing how the current and the barge traffic picks up below St. Louis. That dock in Kimmswick is a pretty good haul as well. I'm not sure if I'd want to be in a Jon boat when the lock is filling, water gets a little funky. If I were you, just hang in the pool and catch the fireworks in Alton or Grafton. If you are looking for an adventure, head north through Winfield, really nice water up there and some good size sand bars. That's my [smilie=twocents.gif]
