After I installed 2 12" polk momo's under the rear seat I deciesed my 1994 alpines 6 1/2 would not cut it anymore so i ordered polk momo 650's but to my dismay, the old alpines are 7" speakers of something. because the polks are way to small to fill the holes. So i guess i need large speakers. the cut out is 5.5" and they are 7.25 overall. the screw holes are 6.5" across from each outher if any of this helps.
The old alpines are 666cw's
thanks

Matt
Almost all the Alpine Marine stuff is 7", don't knwo why but it is
You could machine an adaptor plate and paint it, or do one out of fiberglassed masonite and upholster it like OB suggested.
Worst case, return the polks (or sell them to Eddie for his next adventure  ) and buy the new alpine 7" marine speakers
good luck and let meknow if you need anything

I had the same issue in my last boat. I ordered 6.5" Kickers which were considerably smaller than the 6.5 marine speakers. I cut out 8" diameter plates using 1/4" MDF and covered them in black vinyl. It turned out very slick.

I found a pic. It is hard to see but it is the only pic I have of the plates. Good Luck!

Can you return them and getones that will fit? That would be the easiest and their are so many out there you can find some just as good or better that will fit right in your original holes.
If you want some fiberglass plates made up and gel coated/painted get the deminsions you want and I can make them up for you. Send a pm if interested.

This may be a stupid question but do you all use marine amps in your boats. My amp will be tucked away and a cabinet inside the cabin and you can get quite a bit more bang for the buck if you use a non marine amp. But if it will not last then of course it is not worth it.

It's not so much the direct contact with water, its the humidity created by covering your boat.
If you store your boat covered outside, then marine rated equipment is probably a good idea. If you cover your boat with wet carpet or a wet bilge, and then bake it in the sun, you get a sauna inside that tends to find the connection points and corrode the copper. I found that out the hard way.
If you store it inside or under a covered slip in the shade, then you don't get that humidity so bad. It woud be similar to a standard car environment.

My amps are inside the cuddy and I do not let the inside of the boat get wet. Dude the water goes on the bottom[smilie=011.gif] :)
I had car amps in my old Chris Craft, they were in a non-sealed box in the bilge and I never had any problems. I did however switch to the kicker marine series in the current boat. They sound good, just need more of them:twisted:
