I have a 350 mag, with an alpha one. Sometimes it goes right into forward with no problem, but sometimes it grinds for a little while and takes longer to shift it into gear. It never give me any problems going into reverse. What should I look at? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks

Josh

May not be even remotely related, but mine does that when its low on tranny fluid.

I've also got a 350 mag, but its a vdrive.

Need to adjust your shift cable! Its the red cabel at the back os the intake.Have someone else move it and you will see it! Its just a moorse cable with a threaded end on it to adjust it [smilie=1062.gif]

It may be normal for your alpha drive,my old alpha 350 mag ground as all alphas do. My mechanic said it was normal and with alphas you need to put them in and out of gear aggressively. He also showed me one that was tore apart, they have a design that grinds somewhat normally.

Yup no trans just good old mesh and go! I think he may be right just put it in gear a bit faster and harder! Your's should not need to be adjusted considering its age unless it was done wronge the 1st time! [smilie=1062.gif]

Just throttle it up, it should slam right in and your off (Maybe). I'm with the cable guy.

Shifting it a little more aggressively is what I thought I should do. That usually works, but isn't always prudent to do when you have someone out behind you on a wake board and you don't want to jerk them all over the place. Just wondering if there was any other solutions. I will take a look at the shift cable and see if I can change anything. Good stuff as always guys. Thanks

The only real solution to this problem is to get Livorsi controls or an aftermarket brand that acts the same way it has seperate throttles and shifters allowing you to fully put the boat into gear without the fear of giving it too much gas. May not be applicable to all makes and models.

I solved my problem by buying a bigger boat with a 454 and a Bravo 1, what a huge difference, I then sold the alpha driven boat. May not be applicable in all cases. I just remember the more you try an ease an alpha into gear the more it will grind.
