I've got an 87 Chris Craft Stinger 260 with twin stock 350 mercruisers and alpha drives. I run 23s now and get the engines around 42-4300 rpms for about 58mph. I'm planning on dropping down to 21s to get the RPMs a bit higher but at WOT, my boat porpoises quite a bit. I've tried every trim adjusment, tabs up, tabs down, etc. Is this just hull design or is there a wheel I can spin to keep this from doing that? Boat weighs 5750lbs dry. Thanks for any help.

Decreasing the pitch may help because the higher pitch increases stern lift. If it goes the other way, 4 blade propellers of the same 21 pitch may raise the stern enough to also stop the porpoise. It could then however, decrease top end speeds but will offer better low end grunt and handling characteristics.

If I remember right I have 21 on mine. I also had a problem with it wanting to porpoise, I had the propes cupped and that seemed to help alot but I did loose some top end speed.

I've since picked up a set of 21s and will try them out soon. Hopefully that helps or I'll be having those worked. Thanks for the advice! Stinger, how's your cabin coming along? Ever do anything with it?

We can add rake through tip cupping if we need to go that route.

Keep us informed.

Not coming along so well. Every time I go down and plan to work on it I start drinking and you no how that ends up.
I need to get a lot of work done on it and summers coming fast. Hopefully March will be nice and I can get motivated.

I hear that. I've got a camper to gut and remodel so we have a place to stay rather than the cabin of the boat! I haven't even started that yet. Starting on a custom fiberglass windscreen this weekend instead of my old windshield that needs so much work it's not funny.

BBlades, what's a ballpark on working a set of 21s with the mods you're talking? Also the 21s I have don't have that shiny "bling" I want. Polishing?

Depending on the process, you can be in the $172-$344 range per prop.

Complete Lab jobs are the $344 mark.

Also, high polish takes more time and is part of the cost. Hi-polish sure looks pretty but it doesn't do anything as far as performance is concerned. Just a FYI. We can make them shine in the dark if that's your desire!
