OK, here is what I am thinking of
Kinda on a budget
Looking at Kenwood and looking at getting it all from Crutcfield
Pair of Kenwood 30x4 KAC6401 AMPS
KDCC719 10 disc changer
KRC38MRCC Marine Cassette receiver with disc control
Pair of 3-way KFC 1689ie 6 1/2" speakers
Pair of 12" KFC W3009 subs
Marine remote
And 2 sets of wiring packages.

Question?
Are two amps too much?
I want to power only the rear speakers, the new 6 1/2's and the subs
The front speakers in the cabin I want standard power.
I am not sure on were to put the subs as of yet.
I have an idea, but not sure if I want to cut into the upholstery
Thought about a box under each front seat. Mounted to the floor with the thumping happening right at *** level

Thought about scratching the subs and getting a pair of 6x9"s to install by the front seats, but not sure on amount of room and availability to cut into the compartments there

Also just thought about the speaker and one amp with the new receiver.

Only thing that is wrong with current setup is the deck died. And its stock

Last question, can I skip one amp and run a triway using the one amp to supply two speakers and then the triway to power ONE sub? If I did this I would upgrade to one amp but larger ratings, like maybe 450w

Crutchfield is way too expensive. Did you try shopping on the Internet? Clarion is one of the few stereo manufactures that actually build stereo equipment of use around water and moisture and Sony has probably the only CD players that doesn’t skip when hitting a wake.

I'm not sure want your plans for the cassette player is?

Etronics.com has the Kenwood Amps for $115. Crutchfield $180!
CD Changer Crutchfield again $180, Etronics $140

Any reason why you are looking at a 4 channel amp for the subs? I would recommend getting a good digital mono or a two channel amp for those. You will get more power, more bass, as long as you keep the load (impedance) correct. Kenwood makes nice stuff,, but also check out the Clarion Marine equipment for the head unit and changer, they make killer electronics. For amps, check out the Rockford Fosgate lineup,, very clean and lots of balls!

Thanks Guys

Reason for Kenwood, its what I have now :) and the remotes will not go to waste that I already have :)

Clarion makes a nice unit, but More$$ Only ones I have seen for clarion are a taller deck. I have only room for a single din unit.

Reason for the cassette deck is I have over 400 cassettes. I also have voer 300 Cds so with the receiver and cahnger I can use both.
I plan on hte cd only being used when floating or rafting. Cassette being used for running. At least that was my thought pattern on it.
Thought about Rockfords, but I heard they use alot more juice from the batteries.
Never really gave it a though on why a 4 channel for the subs, just thought about bridging them into the two subs.

Can you tell I am LEARNING here :)
So edumacate me :)

If I were to get anything, I would get an cd head unit that could play mp3's. I think it is a lot cheaper than a disc changer, and you can have a ton more music.

Rockford amps to take a little more power from the batteries, but they are generally more powerful and more efficient. If you get a digital sub amp, it will tend to run quite a bit cooler than a standard 2 or 4 channel amp at recommended loads. (Which is nice when it's 100 degrees out!)

Your computer can do them for free. You can take regular cd's and turn them into mp3s. Does your computer have a cd burner? I will even burn you a copy of all of my mp3's. (Nearly 1500 songs).

Burn away :)
Would love to have a selection

How many mp3's will fit on a cd?

Yes my home computer has a burner, but I have no clue how to burn songs.
I have only copied other programs :) oh and backups of my files.

How much are the programs for this?

To take cassettes to CD's, you need a CD burner with an Aux input to record from.

Programs are free for this. You can download something like winamp. Burning them on a cd is very easy. What operating system do you have on your computer? windows 2000? xp?

You can fit 740 megabyte on a cd. Most mp3's range from 4 to 6 megabyte per song. You do the math. I dont know if they have a mp3 player that can read dvd media. If so that may be the way to go. A dvd holds 4.4 gigabyte which is roughly 4400 Megabyte. But then you need a dvd burner.

I have a Sony CD player in the boat that can play mp3's. I can get around 150 songs on a cd and put it on shuffle play and listen to it all afternoon. That's the whole reason I went with the mp3 cd player so I did not have to carry around a bunch of cd's, only one or two.

I'm working on putting 300 complete CD in our Dell MP3 player, once I hit that I'll start dumping individual song I don't like. I think it hold 5,000 songs.

Hey amp experts, I have a Clarion 5 channel 500w amp and was think of getting a separate amp for the sub and adding a second sub (I have another 10" Clarion 300w in the basement) , any amp suggestions? So far everything is Clarion expect the four Bose 151.

MP3 zips songs so depending on the compression ratio will determione how many song you have on a disc. I carry 2 discs on the boat. One has about 6.5 hours of music on it and the other has around 8 hour. I have a Sony 7505 and power through to 2 amps. One Sony multi-channel 600 watt amp powering 6- MP-62's and one Sony 1200 watt powering 2- 10" Kickers. This system rocks!!! [smilie=rocker] Any one here on the board that has heard mine can atest to that.

Now if you want to really go out and have a system you can go the way Amer3 is going. They finished up last night. I heard the system with out the back 8 speakers and it is LOUD!!!! and Clear. I'll let him explaine what all he has but I'm pretty sure that no one is going to come close to what he has in it. He should be posting pics on another thread of how the work was being done.
