Having a family pet emergency right now, depends on how that turns out. Know for sure later in week.

We have been working on a rating system for the cheap wine tasting. Should be prove to be good! [smilie=1074.gif] [smilie=071.gif] [smilie=1062.gif]

We know about those pet things as well. And as Dave Cox does. Wonder if he'll be down. Pit say's the jello shots are made [smilie=071.gif] I'll have to find a rare vintage for the ol' bag [smilie=1074.gif]

I think our rare vintages will be rather pricey at around $2 a bottle (screw cap of course) and perhaps the fine year of 2004. [smilie=071.gif]

Ah yes, Pit. That would be the one from Memorial Day weekend. I am sure that will be one of the vintage wines lurking in one of the brown bags. [smilie=1062.gif] Truly a classic!

Stacy

Yes, there are a whole bunch of different flavors. Funny thing is...if you read the label on any of the different flavors, they are almost all some variation of "Apple Flavored Wine" no matter what color or flavor the bottle says. Ah yes, truly the sign of a classic wine! [smilie=265.gif]

Speaking of cheap wine….

If my calculations are correct, a 5 L box of wine is your best bet. I picked up one of red the other day on sale for $8.99, say it’s $9.50 with tax.. One of those babies holds 6 and 2/3 bottles of wine.

That’s about a buck fitty a bottle.

Practically speaking, you can get three adults or Nick totally trashed for less than ten bones.

You know back when I was in high school - not that I drank then  - it was $3.50 a bottle. Only wine I've ever seen that the price goes down on.

Wait a minute..... are you saying I drink a lot? When you weigh 250 lbs like i do, you need lots to stay hydrated...like a 5 liter box of wine.

I always thought that is why boating and [smilie=alc] went so well togather!

When I was in college, we used to drink a cheap version of Riunite wine. We'd pick it up at the drive-thru liquor store, Cape Cut-Rate. It came in a liter bottle and was around $3. 2 of my girlfriends and me would down it between Cape & our favorite Thursday hangout, The Hideaway, in East Cape, IL. Always made the Hideaway look rosier! [smilie=071.gif]

We just had a pet emergency of our own about a week ago, male Papillion broke one of his front legs, hopping around on the furniture. So $1200 later he has a pin in his leg and wire around the bone. He gets around just fine with the cast on his leg.

How's yours doing and what happened?

Black lab mix, perfectly fine one minute...then we found him in yard Monday night unable to move his back end. No feeling whatsoever. Apparently he had some kind of spinal damage. We have no idea what happened.

He went to doggie heaven this morning. [smilie=106.gif]

Nothing hurts so much as losing such a loyal freind ...

When God had made the earth and sky,
The flowers and the trees.
He then made all the animals,
The fish, the birds and the bees.
And when at last He'd finished,
Not one was quite the same.
He said, "I'll walk this world of mine,
And give each one a name."
And so he traveled far and wide
And everywhere He went,
A little creature followed him
Until it's strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earth
And in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, "Dear Lord,
There's not one left for me."
Kindly the Father said to him,
"I've left you to the end.
I've turned my own name back to front
And called you dog, my friend."

Sorry to hear that. My oldest cat is 17 and I thought a few weeks ago she was heading that way. Have been telling myself for the last year that I'm comfortable with losing her, but almost starting crying at the vet when I thought she would die.

Darn, somehow somebody snuck in and turned the bottles around before you took the picture. Sneaky bastards. I’m sure the red is something along the lines of a 1992 Lafite-Rothschild. Save a swig of that one for me.

Note: I typed this in Word and “swig” did not show up as misspelled so I guess it’s a really a word.

The same thing happened to our yellow lab two weeks before Memorial weekend. I was just getting ready to put him down and the vet talked me into seeing what was going to happen. It turns out he had a blood clot in his spinal area that blocked the flow of blood to the nerves in his spine. Pretty much a spinal stroke is waht they said. Well his right leg came back almost the next day, his tail started to wag in about three days and his left leg is now starting to come back as well. He can walk fairly well again and seems to get better each day. I've never heard of this before but apparently it is fairly common for larger breed dogs.

Did your dog have any feeling in his back end at all? Did he still have reflex reactions?

I am glad your big guy is doing better now.

Meyerwrenches,

Sorry for Barneys' demise. We had a 14 yr old Weimaraner that had the same problem. She had no feeling or control of her rear end or bladder. Vet figured she had a stroke or had fallen down and injured her spine. We had to put her down that night. It was really hard to do. I feel for you.

Captain Morgan had feeling just no motor control. He did have control of his bowels and bladder. We had to put a towel under his mid section and carry his rear end out to the yard so he could do his business for about two weeks. He has shown a little improvement almost every day. He managed to jump up on Karen yesterday, something he hasn't been able to do for about a month. He can actually run again now but after about ten paces he forgets to concentrate and his left leg goes out from under him so he is funny to watch. Can't laugh at him though or he gets all self conscience and then just comes over and sits at your side.

You Never really get over it.
Tiger was on Insulin shots twice a day for exactly 2 years to the day he started his shots. He would wait in front of the frig... for his shot before he would ever take a bite of food. We were only able to wait a couple of months before we adopted another Cat, than another. We now work around the clock spoiling these critters.

We are going on 6 months of daily Sub Q fluid injections for Maxwell and giving him medicine twice daily. We were a little worried about him two weeks ago as he lost a little weight, but we started giving him pedialite (of all things) and upped his potasium, and he is doing pretty well these days.
