This is my first post on this site so bear with me. Last year I kept my boat outside in the direct sunlight and it faded pretty bad on the top colored area. Any idea how to shine it up. I tried your basic turtle wax and all I got was a sore shoulder..............

You need to use an agressive compound and a rotary buffer to remove and then follow up witha good marine wax .

There is a product by Starbrite called fiberglass and color restorer....Excellent stuff..Can be found at most boating supply stores. Also Meguire's makes a good color restorer.

Look online for Aqua-Buff. It is a fiberglass finishing compound that all the boat refinishing folks say works great!!!

Here is the address: http://www.aqua-buff.com/

Hey Ferris, nice to have you aboard. I'm moving this post to the Frenzy corner because Kim from Frenzy usually has great advice. I think she'd argree with the aqua buff suggestion, she usually recommends them for this problem.

Aqua-Buff worked well on my boat, however, it was a bit more difficult to work with compared to typical compounds. It does a wonderfull job with oxidation, but you will get a better shine if you follow up with a finishing compound such as Finesse-It.

I recommend Aqua Buff. Just be sure to keep it wet, follow directions carefully. It's very easy to work with and does an outstanding job and prepping the surface for wax.

Turtle-Wax is your "Grandfather's wax". Technology has come SO far since then.

After using Aqua Buff, you can hand-apply Waxing Frenzy! Since it has the highest percentage of UV protection, you should be able to bring her back very easily.

Keep it waxed! Not just because I manufacture wax, but because I have detailed thousands of boats and you really want to nip the oxidation/fading problem in the bud. You know...an ounce of prevention....

You can do this quite easily in 2 steps. Feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail if you need further help.

Do you recommend Waxing Frenzy for prevention? How many times a year should a boat be waxed? Thanks.

Yes, I absolutely recommend Waxing Frenzy for prevention. The number of times per year depends on the condition of the boat and the environment in which it is kept. Generally, every 3 months is a good rule of thumb, but keep an eye on the surface and "nip the problems in bud".

Getting a good coat on before you put your boat up for the winter will protect her through the harsh conditions and reduce (or eliminate) mildew.
