Attending the Tre-Martin course down at the lake (LOTO) this week and it looks like I need to change my props from the one it came with.
I have a 36' Nor-Tech with whippled 525's using XR Dives spinning H-6 (33P) Hydromotive props. We were trying to get up to speed and could only get to the low 70's at 4000 rpm with a five people in the boat and on full fuel tanks (lol...my mistake).
We are going to try some others tomorrow morning that Tres' found from one of his clients to see if we can get it up to speed. Tres mentioned that these props are too big for the boat and the weight were trying to push, especially with all the additional fuel onboard.
He suggested that I look for some other ones like 4-Blade (32, 34 or 34) Bravo ones or 5-Blade (30 or 32) Maximus, Hydromotive or Herings. I'm looking to find a prop that will give me decent speed but also be able to get the boat going with several passengers in it.
At this moment I don't have a clue what would work the best and am looking for any suggestions anyone might have.
Thanks, Jim

Send Hell Ya a pm - he's got a few in that range or maybe try Jason at Lake Shore Marina, last time I was there it seems he had a client with some tall props that were for sale, well tall for a guy like me with a 33 Baja

Thanks,
Eddie I'll give him a shout and see if Jason has anything that might work out. Hopefully the props there bringing tomorrow will do the trick and give me a little better handle on what I need.

I have a few sets but not sure they will be what you need. What ratio are your drives? 1:50's ?

There 1:50's not sure what would be the best size though

May be able to come up with a set of 32p bravo 4 blades. Ill check first thing in the am.
But Im shocked if that would work for you with a 1.5 ratio drive. Seems youd have to spin them to the moon to make em work.

All mine for the Cig are too small then. If it were me I would be looking for 30 or 32 Maximus 5 blades to start. But I think you need 1:36 drives. That might be why they had the 6 blades on her.
Ya know what though, We are heading right back to where it was. Are you sure it is not down on power for some reason? It should spin those 33's with 1:50 drives with ease. Are you running about 6 pounds of boost? Could one of the engines be in limp mode?
Just a few thoughts.

I think originally we had way too much weight with full tanks with five adult males, only two being below 220 lbs or so. It also appeared that the Octane was a little low from what it was supposed to be, the port motor experienced some run-on during the first run.
I added some Octane Booster and that seemed to make them a little happier. And yes, I think one of the motors went into the Limp mode and wouldn't spool up past 3,200 RPM. WEre running 5-7 lbs of boost on the motors and I just thought of something, the GGB's that I had to install to get the sound down might be hurting it too.
After shutting them down to allow them to reset, removing three people we were able to get them up to 4,000 and around 72 or 73 on the GPS. It's still very heavy with fuel and Tres thinks this is a major part of the problem.
They are doing some dialing-in of one of their clients boats today and they are brininging some other props to try out to see if we can get the motors to get over the hump. To finish and pass their course we need to get to at least 90 to 95 to be able to do some of the manuveurs that they teach.
I should now something this morning and am keeping my fingers crossed that the prop change will help out, if it doesn't the only other option is buring off fuel and getting to at least a 1/2 tank to see if that helps.

Good luck Jim, If you can spin a pair of 32 pitch 4 blades to 5200 with 10% slip or less. You will run 95 +

Thanks Jeff, I'll let you know what changing the props do and I might try removing the muffler inserts this could be limiting them too but I wouldn't think it would be that drastic...
but what do I know I sell Fire Systems for a living and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night...lol

Rereading your posts, I have one more thought, and you already addressed it. Octane! If the boat was really loaded heavy, and we know it was. And your octane was low causing the engines to detonate, the knock sensors woul retard the timing. This would make her a pig. Get the octane up! I have some good booster on my dock if you need it.

I agree with the above statements. I just cant believe that 525's with whipple's would have a hard time spinning those props with a 1.5 ratio drive. I thought for sure you would come back this morning and say oops the drives are a 1.24 ratio. You've gotta be down on power for some reason. Once you get the octane up, may wanna see if there are any stored codes in the motors as well. Ive heard one trick to reset them is key on motor off, throttle all the way forward and then back then turn the key off.I checked on the 32 4 blades and they are gone.
Good Luck.[smilie=trink39]

Thanks, I'll make sure we try and reset the codes, as for the exact ratio the drives don't have them marked, but they were supposed to be 1:50's.
I already added some Octane Booster yesterday and we'll see if that helps it out. It did originally but as I mentioned earlier I'm carrying an additional 1,000 lbs of fuel, due to my inexperience I made the mistake of topping them off before I put it back in the water yesterday.
Do you think the mufflers are contributing to this also, I would think they might also be working against me?
I'll see if they want me to pull them out which can be done in a few minutes, but ultimately I'll have to find a solution with them installed, already recieved one noise ticket and I get pulled over almost everytime I leave the dock.

Well, we took it out again this morning and with the Hering 5-Blade 30's it got to 90mph at about 4500 then the motors started to go into the limp mode. I either have bad fuel, not enough Octane or some other ailment like an injector or something. It even backfired a bit and there is some fuel smell in the Starboard engine compartment...
Now I guess I need to find someone to be able to go through the boat and check everything out from the computer codes to anything else that needs addressing.
If anyone has suggestions on who down here is the best to use, their Whippled 525's. At the very least I'd like to track down the fuel issue and make sure it's safe to take out.
Jim
btw: passed the class but would have really liked the boat to have performed better.

Id recommend Hell Ya's buddy Kinser. He seems to be a class act. Not sure if he would have time to mess with it this weekend, you may also try Heck Ya and the guys over at CPR but again this weekend may be a crap shoot. Id go out and burn some of that fuel off, then refuel it with some known good higher octane stuff and see what that nets ya.

Yeah I know the timing isn't the best...lol...couldn't have picked a busier weekend...I'll give them a shout and see if there is anything they can help with.

Yep, What QWKRNU said. But I would get some GOOD octane booster in it and not punish it anymore till fixed. Might need to clear the codes. I can do that for ya, but I need to get my boats done first. Not to sound like a broken record, but if you detonate those blown engines enough you will wound them.

Interesting scenario. Keep us informed as to your progress. Looks like nothing has come out in the last 2 weeks.
I sat in the original 36 with Trond at the 2003 Ft. Lauderdale show. We ran all Bravo 1 props on it back then.
The boat should easily run in the mid 90's even with 4 people and 1/2 tank fuel with the power you have. Custom Maximus props work really well.
Get the fuel smell issue handled. We don't want you to use one of your fire systems.
How did the Tres school go? Don't forget to adjust your insurance.

Much belated update, Jeff (Hell Ya) helped me out with some good VP Octane Booster which that an adding some 110 Octane fuel to help clear up the fuel issue.
It seems most of the problem was fuel related, didn't have any fuel leaks and it has run good since then. No it wouldn't look to good owning a Fire Protection Company and having a preventable fire.
Tres' school went well it was a very good experience and would highly recommend it to anyone. New insurance is in place with the help of John @ "Performance Marine Group" with American Reliable providing the coverage that I needed.
Thanks to everyone who helped out or made suggestions, I should have done this earlier...
In a couple of weeks the boat will be getting the XR's pulled and ASD7M's installed and some other cosmetic work like a new paint job and interior for 08'.
