What do you feel is the best stereo amp for mids and tweets? I want POWER talking 300 - 500 + watts RMS per channel but of course the lower the draw against the battery the better.
I have been looking at:
MTX TA91002
MTX TA7804
Rockford Fosgate
Polk c300.2 and running 1 for the left and 1 for the right channels.

I want to be able to hear the [smilie=violin] in Kid Rock's bawataba running 70 mph up river.

The 4 channel Rockford I had in the Pantera kicked butt. It was around 550watts, but when split the power and at a 4 ohm rating it put out 65 watts x 4.

Jeff, check out the Alpine PDX series amps and see what you think. Bob and I have installed about ten of them so far and can't find a thing wrong with them.

Jeff, I woudl say Alpine PDX

That is what will be going in the next boat

they have a 4.150 that does a clean 150watts x 4

I have Rockford in the PQ and love it but the ALpines are a lot smaller and LOT more efficent wich mean smore run time on the batteries. I cna get about 7 hours out of my batteries with the rockford, if my calculations are correct I should be able to do 9-10 with the same batteries and the PDX amps

I have heard good things about the new Alpine's as well. I had some of the JL Slash series in my last truck and those things were awesome. The 300/4 is a bad boy. I am running Kicker amps in the boat currently but the next boat is running all JL.

Jeff, I can get the stereo as loud as you want, but it might take me a while to get your boat to do 70!

I'd suggest you take a long, hard look at Class D, digital switching amps. All of the old school Class AB amps aren't very efficient on their power use. (quite a bit of the power they draw is lost in excess heat).

The new ICE technology that is available in a number of Class D amps is really quite good sounding, and MUCH more power efficient.

I recently bought a Pioneer Premeir Class D (ICE) amp. It's a very accurate, very good sounding amp and it's drawing about half the power from the batts that the old Class AB amps (Alpines) used to. It only ever gets warm to the touch, not hot and for electronics that usually means a much greater lifespan.

Check em out. Here's the multichannel unit:

and the mono sub unit:

I very highly recommend these for boat use. Considerably longer playtime on the same batteries.

The Alpine PDX amp's use this technology as well. The older alpine V series amps use a lot more power than the pdx's.

I just looked at the spec's on these, they look very good as well.

I upgraded my system just before the Memorial Day weekend.

I sought the recommendations of several competition audio guys at one of my clients that deal solely in replacement audio, another that does electronic repair and my tower speaker manufacturer. I was pretty set on the PDX after reading other threads. Hate to say it; the Alpine PDX’s were down played by all three. They basically said the Alpine’s not as stable or powerful as either the Rockford Fosgate or JL.

I decided on the Fosgate Power T600-4. The birth sheet rates it at 388w x 2 @ 4 ohm and it is 2 ohm stable if you want to go crazy. All I can say is WOW!! Between the speaker upgrade and the Fosgate, “painful” is the only way to describe the volume. They sound great and have no distortion though maximum volume, something I had never experienced before. Note, there is a huge quality difference between the Punch and Power series.

If you have not looked at speakers yet, general consensus here also favors the MOMO 6500. I would recommend you take a look at a little company called Wet Sounds that is cleaning up as THE wakeboard tower speaker if you are looking for serious volume. They have a new 6.5” in boat component speaker built off their tower mid driver. These guys understand how to handle power and overbuild everything to handle the “alcohol effect”. I have not heard the xs-650 but have two of the Pro 485 tower units and will probably be upgrading my in boat speakers soon.

Good luck [smilie=headbang] [smilie=headbang]
