Greetings,
I have an '89 Bravo One mated to a 454 Bravo. I recently replaced the impeller on the inboard water pump. I used a dab of white lithium grease
during assembly so it would not spin dry upon initial start up. However
I can not seem go get the system primed since I broke all of the connections. I am using my garden hose with "ear muffs". I just can't
seem to get water flowing. any tips? I went back and double checked everything and all is hooked up okay. Thanks for any help/ideas....

I usually leave the output side disconnected and with the water running start up for a few seconds to verify water flow at that point. Hook all back up and start up and give it a few seconds for flow. If you don't get any at either time you have a blockage...Also you do have the drive down correct?

Hey ron, i had a simular propbelm once. my problem was the rubber seal at the top of the brass water tube not seated correctly. check it out. make sure the tab on the rubber seal is matted in the hole in the plate. Here is a pic. part # 3.

capn_ron,
I would first start by squeezing the muffs tight up against the drive intake ports, forcing the water into the drive and up to the pump. make sure your hoses are on the correct nipple and hat you didn't get them switched around. The feed hose from the transom should go on the top one. If it's still not picking up prime, there may be a chance that the new impeller was installed in the wrong rotational direction and that will cause it to spit the vanes off of it when it spins over......hope that s not the case.....let me know what you find outl. Tach3, Thanks but my pump is belt driven from the engine. I did not have to split the lower unit apart.
283Check, I pulled the input line from the inside of the transom plate and filled it
with water to prime the system let it run for a min. with the garden hose stuck directly in that input hose. Got the system filled up that way. Seems to have
solved my problem. Thanks!!!
