I've decide to spend a few extra bucks and convert the old Baja over to fully synthetic motor oil and lower unit lube. If the weather hold out I should have some results on Tuesday. We'll see if they hype is true or not. [smilie=050.gif]

We sell Royal Purple synthetics industrially. With this access, I can get synthetic oils at very reasonable levels, thus run Purple in all my toys. I'm a believer in syns. Saved my wallet a few years ago when the in-laws lost the water pump on a two-cycle 175HP outboard. The motor got so hot, it melted the wiring harness off the motor. The technician that assisted in the rebuild couldn't believe the condition of the engine. Bores measured true and had very little scoring. He suggested a light hone and go. Of course, I said bore and fly!!! Also have two customers running Purple in their high mileage vehicles. One is over 300k in a F150 and the other is slightly over 350k in a Crown Victoria.

When coverting to syns, make sure the first oil change is done after only a few hours of run time. Usually around 10 hours. The syns tend to clean the deposits out of the motor which degrades the oil fairly quick.

Welcome to the world of sins!!

I'd love to run Royal Purle but it's spendy over the counter. I bought some cheap stuff for the first time. I think it's a group III bottled by valvoline. Royal Purple isn't a group III is it? I was thinking RP was a group IV or something like that.

Did you see any results yet?
I changed mine over with Amsoil Full Synthetic 20/40 and full Syn gear lube. I seen about a solid 1 mph gain. And it seems to run smoother too.

Unfotunatly not [smilie=101.gif] I had a mysterious hick-up, which I believe is in the ignition system. The boat is in the garge getting a competely updated ignition.

A solid 1 is great for the ease and cost.

I read about the speed increase on the Baja forum, no one could believe that just changing over to sythetic could get an extra Mph or more. People tried it and reported their results and all agreed it did work. So I thought what the hell I'll give it a try, I have to change my oil anyway.

I'm running Royal Purple got it from www.Karlsracing.com best price I could find. It's early to tell, but I think it helped w/the oil consumption on my 502.

I Have Moble 1 in :
03 Vette
99 Vette
92 ZR-! Vette LT-5
Pt Cruiser
Honda Goldwing
Mowing equipment
I use Aero Shell 15/50 synthetic blend in my Plane for the past 17 years.
I saw a Moble ad once with a F-16 that read: If it will hold up at 75000 RPM in a
GE Turbo Jet it will hold up in your Car.
You might Be better off with a high grade regular oil, than a cheap synthetic!
My 02 Cents

Come on cheapo, get Amsoil Series 2000 25w-50, it $8 a quart, but you only change it once a year, maybe twice if it stops raining before August!

Although Royal Purple straight 40w is probably the best all around oil out there, and their bottle actual fits the filler on the 502's.

I tried them both and the funny thing is both oils are purple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing better than having your oil match the color scheme of your ride.

450 hours on what are normally oil burning 502 MPI Mag's and not a drop added this year.

We went to fully synthetic last year. Much better lubrication, less chaffing..........

I can attest to Bajapit's statement about the f-16. I own two of these jets and that all I run in both of them. I saw a speed increase of 350 kts and my engines run 2500 degrees cooler now. [smilie=061.gif]

You should sell one of them and buy a 40 Outlaw.

I tried Amsoil last night and don't know what your talking about. Jody said she didn't want it faster and hated the taste. She wants to stick with cherry flavor. [smilie=071.gif]
