1987 Excalibur Hawk 40', 400hp 454's, TRS drives. You know, all the state of the art stuff, well, a hundred years ago anyway. Anyway the props I have now are 4 blade LH & RH stainless and it says HC-CL24R-O IV under the the prop nut. That's the only numbers I see. The boat runs 45 mph according CrownMan but what can you tell from a guy with Crown in his name??? These boats usually run 55 -60 and the highest the motors will turn with these props is 3300 RPM according to the horse and buggy tachs...
Any ideas????? THANKS!
And soon I'll be needing props for the Tempest......
And do you carry Mulching props, like mulching blades on a lawn mower? Sure would be nice in the Forest where we boat...

You're exactly right... You need new props! Those motors should be turning around high 4000's rpms.
The props you have are Hydromotive Q-IV's. A good prop just not the pitch you need. You should be looking for something in the range of a 19 or even 17 pitch.
BTW - I might have an interest in your 24's. It's possibly a little too much prop for me but I'd like to try some 4 blades.

I have the 20p 4 blades on the PQ that you could borrow if you want. I may be going out on Sat to see if mine still floats but I will be putting it back on the trailer to take back to my shop since I have more parts to put on when I return from KC end of next week so we could take them off then

Anyone kow where to get a set of cheapos, even aluminum? Boat should get sold and thses won't work on the bbt so... Also what props use the interchangeable inserts that you can get for TRS and other drives. In other words I don't knwo squat about props and interchangeability lalalal. THANKS [smilie=042.gif]

TRS use the same prop shaft configuration as Alpha's and the Bravo's with the smaller 15-spline shaft. This covers about 80% of the merc props on the open market. Track down a standard Quicksilver Mirage 19 pitch and you should be set.

Would 14 1/2 x 17 3 blades do? Worth buying n trying for $325.00?
HolySMokes - You going to Perry?
Holy Smokes
05-11-2007, 12:50 PM
You should be able to turn those fine. I assume you talking about some Merc Mirage stainless steel props. $325 is the upper limit those should sell for. It all depends on the condition. Clean with no nicks or dings maybe, beat to hell and in need of rebuilding....no way.
Probably won't make it to Perry again this year. Taking the boat back to LOTO next weekend and will likely stay for the season. Costs too damn much to tow! [smilie=106.gif]

The Vengance props are more widely used on bass boats and such. Either one of these would be better.

Don my 20p 4 blades are not doing it for me(they would be great loto props) but scrub 4 mph off the top end so I will be pulling them off this weekend to go back to the 3 blades, so they are yours to borrow and try out
