The post below alerted me to 2 demo amps on sale at Best Buy pretty cheap.

Rockford Fosgate 200 Watt Amp
Rockford Fosgate 500 Watt Amp

I currently have a

Prestige-something 200 Watt Amp
Orion Cobalt 140 Watt Amp

I don’t even know if these amps even work in both sides because my two 6x9s and two Rockford Fosgate subs go on and off all the time so I pretty much just listen to sports news on the radio.

Would the new 200 watt amp work well with 2 good 6x9s? and would the new 500 Watt amp be too much for the Rockford Fosgate 10” subs?

It would work OK. Probably be pretty loud.

RF amps are good amps, will put out more power than rated. I would think all your speakers could handle each fine. Remember its the clipping of an amp that does more damage to your speakers. W/ the RF amps, u can probably have your gains set lower & get better clean power to your speakers.

The prices were $19.99 for the 200 watt amp and $79.99 for 500 watt one. I’m thinking that’s very very good.

It depends on which RF amps they are on if they will work. The wattage is also usally rated as max bridged output. In actuality the 500 will put out 250watts if not bridged. You need to know how many channels each has. The 500 may work to power the 6x9's and the sub just fine.

If its like my RF 500watt, you could put 65watts to each 6x9 and bridge the other channel and give 250watts to the sub.

Those prices are so low it got me wondering if those were the prices on the yellow tags were for the warranty, I didn’t look real close.

OK, I found out the real prices are $95 for the 200 watt amp and $225 for the 500 watt amp. That sounds more realistic. I didn’t think BB would have such a huge discount

Ok first off you have to look at how much each sub is rated for such as 150 RMS or 250 RMS..etc, this is the what the amp should put out to each sub in watt power. LIke said before the 500 watt amp is probably rated at bridged at 2 ohms. If your going to run 2 channels then knock that power in half because now its at 4 ohms. Also another thing you should look at is if your subs are 2, 4, or 8 Ohm rated subs. If you want some ball busting power the 500 should be for subs only, because most speaker blow when you under power them, the sub is trying to draw more than whats really there,

I think if you had the 200 watt amp for the 6x9 and the 500 for only the subs you should be just fine. But all one may be overload for the amp

I have had pretty good luck dealing with this Internet store: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/

Pretty good prices, large inventory, etc. I just recently got a Pioneer Premiere class FD amp from them for the boat. The FD are full range, switching amps, a different technology than regular class AB amps. Bottom line is it has tons of power, is *smaller* than traditional class AB amps, uses less power and puts off a fraction of the heat that an AB amp will.

For a boat, this seemed perfect for me! Less power wasted as heat = more time to party before the batts drain. ;) Another nice touch was that all of the connections are on *ONE* side, makes for rigging in a boat much easier than the traditional dbl sided approach. All adjustment pots are on the face too, so you don't have to be able to see the edge.

Here's the amp in question: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=17894

$440 retail, they sell it for $269.

Regarding power ratings, yeah it's a big rip. This Pioneer Premiere amp I'm talking about is a 1200w amp if you just go by the global rating. It's a 4 channel amp and when you get down to reality, it's a 75w RMS x 4 amp. (that's still a damn loud amp) The case is all magnesium with a nice machined aluminum cover that hides the wiring connections. Nice stuff.

I have a 2 farad cap and a Soundstream power center feeding it and it's rock solid. I plan to put another Pioneer D class amp in for the sub later (once I figure out where the heck to put the subwoofers)

Here's the power center:

I ran 2 gauge up from the batteries to this unit. (and am running 8 gauge to the amps) The display on it shows the true battery voltage and also the amp draw of the rest of your system off it.

I had a RF 200AV 4 channel and ran 2 10s and 4 speakers with it. They put out a LOT more power than they rate them. that's a good price for them if they work. I'd buy some as well, but I've got a Sony 600amp 4 ch pushing 4 4-way speakers and a 1000amp 2 channel pushing 2 10s. Not what I dream of having, but they sound great for the $ and hey, they match the color of the boat!

If anyone has any spare amps they’ve outgrown, let me know. [smilie=042.gif]
