Brett,
I got some more info this am. I installed a pair of IMCO -1" shorties and Ran the Scarab. No difference in top speed with the stock 28 pitch bravo 1's. So I then proceeded to finish the equation with labbed props as per or conversation a few weeks ago. I slipped on the pair of labbed 30's and she liked them. Same rpm at WFO 5000 but a good 2.5 or 3 mph faster. She ran 52mph @ 3500 rpm and she tickled 78mph @ 5000 rpm. This was on a calm morning with NO chop. I know this boat well and it would easily pick up 1 to 1 1/2 mph with a foot of chop. So 80 is with in reach! [smilie=061.gif]

I then tried the 28 pitch labbed 5 blades that you did for $hredder and I needed more power. It ran 75 @ 4800 and I could not turn them any more with the 415 hp 502's. But it did pick up 3 to 4 mph at cruise.

I am really proud of my 33 Scarab running close to 80 GPS with box stock 502's And want you to know I really appreciate your help!!

THANK YOU!! Jeff

Jeff,

Thanks for the report. I think a small mod to the Labbed 30's might pull another 1.5 mph to put it over the top in the good water.

Let me know what happens next to the boat and where it ends up.

Take care.

Hi ,

Last year in Spetember I sold my 1997 Baja 272 Boss 502 , wich was a great , great boat. I owned it for nearly one year . I wanted to move to something bigger. So i found an 1999 Scarab 33 avs for sale on e-bay and since nobod was bidding on it , I got the boat "CHEAP". This boat was a trade in on a R.V. sand the car-dealer had it for over a year. Then I had the boat shipped frol Pensecola Fl. to Belgium Europe. It arrived mid November , up on arrivel I winterised both engines .The boat has 120 hours on both clocks . I replaces the shore power electric sytem and battery chargers from 110v to 220v. And replaced the complet stereo and equiped the boat with over 2000 watt. I have the boat services (both drives , engines ) I replaced both sea water pumps , spark plugs etc... NEXT WEEKEND I WILL PUT THE BOAT IN THE WATER (North sea) TO TEST IT OUT , I bought the boat without testing it or knowing how it handels!!
I did some investigations on the internet and noticed a few difference in general on this model compaired to my boat. Mine has 2 x 502's with big alu aftermarket airfilter/flamùe arresters , myne has MSD ingnition units (blue boxes) , aftermarket exhaust manifolds with nice big chroom tru hull exhausts .Both drives are the Bravo one high performace units (short) with two Mercury racing labbed SS Bravo one's 30° props.
SO I am looking forward how thios boat will handel ??
Since no one around here has such a boat , I am looking to receive some informations from you guy's...........:)

Jeff... Im impressed with the results on those props... I know Baja isnt your brand but I have a set of 454 mags / 385hp in my 29 Outlaw... What kind of speeds do you think I should be seeing? I have 26p Mirages on there right now and Im seeing about 73 on gps... You are pushing close to 80 with a bigger boat and about 30hp more each engine and makes me think maybe I should be getting a little more out of mine...

Any other 29 owners have any imput.. or should I say Baja/Fountain owners...

douglas be, welcome!

i'm also a new owner of a 98 33 AVS, i have had mine out once for about 15 minutes when i bought it.
Hell yea swears these are the boats for a good ride in rougher water and that the ride is just killer, i've talked to other people on the East coast and they said the same thing.

mine is all stock, motors, drives ect., but i does have 28p 4 blades on it.
it was a windy day and the lake had about 1 1/2-2 foot chop in the center and you couldn't feel it at all. i forgot to see what the motors were turning, but the boat ran 74.9 on gps with me not knowing where to trim the drives and my props are turning out.

i'm going to turn the props in and see what it's like, keep us posted on how you like the boat!

Hi Guy's,

I tested mu Scarab 33 AVS with 2 x 502 with Bravo onde drive performance lower units. with 30p labbed props(knife's). This was my first time on a calm sea (3ft waves) . The boad did 125km/h on GPS ( 78 MPH) , It was at 7pm and the temprature was only 2°C (neraly freezing) ........... so I didn't test long enough. I also need to find out the best trim settings , but me too I feel 80MP/H will come out of this setupe. I was realy satisfied with the result so far................:pile:
