Currently have Clarion XMD1 HU with (2) speakers in cabin and (2) speakers under rear seat.

Want to upgrade and need some advice!!

Was thinking about keeping the stock HU and the (2) stock cabin speakers and use the HU to power those?

Want to replace the (2) under seat speakers with Polk's MMC6500 along with adding (2) additional Polk MMC6500 for the cockpit. One amp to power the (4) Polk's. Will that be OK if the cabin speakers are off of the HU?

Now for a sub... don't have a lot of places to put one except in the same space under the rear seat. Will that work with the (2) other speakers in there? I assume I would use a free air sub in that area?

What is the deal with the capacitors? do I need one?

I have (2) batteries now, should I install a third?

Give me your 2cents on the subject.

Thanks

I have 3 sets of the MOMO MMC6500s (not the 650's), 2 12 Infinity subs, 4ch Diamond amp, 2 chan Alpine amp, Mono Alpine amp with onboard 3 bank charger with 3 deep cycle batts COMPLETELY separate/isolated from the engine. I have played 8+hours without going dead. When I'm done, I plug in the charger and I'm done till next time, sometime go out twice before re-charging batts. I really don't think u need the caps....

this system was installed on my Cobalt 262 from last year and I am installing it on my new one in the next couple of weeks.... the MOMOs are ABSOLUTELY CRYSTAL CLEAR, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! GAURANTEED!

Hey Jeff

Look into putting the sub into a sealed or ported box. Don't think you'd be happy with a free air sub. I went with a ported box for a boomier sound to make up for the acoustics (or lack thereof) in the boat.

The Momo's are nice, but you can get the same sound from Diamond 661i's at about 1/2 the price and don't have to mount cross overs. Use a cap and make sure you have enough juice. I think that the XMD1 doesn't have pre-outs so you might have to find a XMD3 that will fill the hole and work for what you want to do.

I like the Alpine PDX amps, we have used them in a few boats now with awesome results. If your looking for a list of stuff to pick up.

1 - Clarion XMD3
4 pair Diamond 661i's
1 Alpine PDX 1000.1
1 Alpine PDX 150.4
2 JL W 6 Subs
2 Kinetik 2,400 batteries
and a 1.5 or 2 farad cap should do it.
