Alright, getting a new system in the boat and was wondering if anyone knows or has the Clarion CMD4A system installed. Is this a good system? Gonna hook an I pod up to it and will install an amp if needed. Also, I would like to install a sub with it.

If anyone has any good suggestions for other equip, I'm all ears. I want a good setup for around the thousand dollah range.

Thanks all

XMD2, no sirrius and is an old setero, the CDM4 is awsome, The new version CDM4A has an ipod hook up with the unit. You can change songs on your Ipod via any remote you may have installed in the boat. If you want email me and I can walk you through it.

Thanks fellas for the input....I think I am going with the CMD4A from Clarion. I'm gonna run the 30g IPOD on it. I am also now thinkin Polk audios 6.5 inch speakers with the carbon weave. I'm thinking that 180 watts max x 4 speakers and I am looking at a 8 or 10 inch sub to go with it. Will I need an amp to power these speakers? If so, how big of one? I know enough to probably flack this up pretty good. I'm sure the installation won't be a problem but an entire set up as far as what components will go well with what is my issue.

Look at the Memphis Marine products, they KICK ASS, if the amps are in the cabin you can go with a non mairne amp and get a lot more bang for the bucks, I am partial to the 2004-2005 Rockfords, and I am adding 3 more to the PQ this winter (should put me over 10K watts  ) and you can get a decent 4 channel for the 6.5s

Amp power IS ALWAYS better than headunit power

CU, Im running 4 polk carbon series momo's 6.5s with a JL Aduio 300x4, sounds great.

I just bought a Polk momo 12" sub and may buy a JL 500x1 to power it to keep things consistant.

I still havent decided wether to dump the JBL head unit/remotes for a Rockford/Fosgate head unit/remote and a 6disc changer I have sitting in the basement.

If you want any help on the install I'll be glad to look over your shoulder with a beer in my hand and give you advice such as "Go ahead, it should only blow a fuse if the wires are wrong"

I run 8 Polk MOMO MMC6500's component speakers and they are incredibly clear. Remember MAX wattage does not mean to much, pay attention to RMS or continuous wattage. My speakers run 125 watts of CONTINUOUS power with max @ 250. Ebay is a great inexpensive place to buy, I spent $4K on Ebay last year rounding out my system... for ex. if I were to buy my speakers at the dealer they would be $399 a pair. I got them for $180 a pair on Ebay... New and PERFECT!.

Good luck in whatever u choose! [smilie=042.gif]

millionbuy is the user ID, they sell a chitload of stuff cheap. I have not had a single problem with them. Also, I run Alpine amps (3) and 1 Diamond Audio 4 ch that is extremely powerful but with clear sound...NONE of my equipment is "marine" except for the Polks....

Alright, CMD4A Head Unit, 30 GB IPOD, 4 Polk MM6500's MOMO's, 1 4 channel amp (suggestions) that alpine looks nice, 1 2 Channel amp to run 1 or two subs (suggestions again). I have a battery trickle charger for a deep cycle and a cranking battery, wondering about alternator or can I just plug in the charger and be good with it?

Hi Tech, hold onto those speakers as I will get them after the 1st of the yr. I'm putting a new kitchen flo' in this month.

Thanks Fellas

stock altenator should be fine for that set-up. I would definitely invest in 2 good Deep Cycle (plus starter battery) for those long hours of sitting and listening to music...
