View Full Version : Question on Vinyl Protectant

Is this a cleaner or just a protectant? I need something that will clean, without being to harsh of course. The seats are looking kind of dingy from sitting over the win*** (can't say that bad word anymore) and they take a pretty good beating from the river water in the summer.

If it is just a protectant, what would you recommend?

Thanks

I haven't used Frenzy! Vinyl product yet, and hopefully Kim will weigh in on this. If it works as well as their other products I'd go with that, if its not a real get in their deep cleaner, I'd recommend Conisseur's Choice (sp?) from Liquid Glass. ASH turned me onto it last year. I just though my vinyl was clean unitl I used that stuff, now my gelcoat doesn't look white anymore because my seats are so white. You definitely need a protectant after you use it.

I think the directions say to spray on and wipe off, but if you use a vegetable brush or similiar soft bristled brush to scrub it in, you'll be amazed at the black crap that will come out of your cushions.

But, as I said, if Kim recommends the Frenzy as a good cleaner, I'd try that first, I've had great luck with all the rest of her products.

By the way, don't use the Conniseur's Choice protectant, its crap.

Someone recently turned me onto that Conisseur's Choice, I just could not remember the name. I think I might like to give that a try for the initial cleaning. The guy that told me about it gave about the same description as you did. Is that something you can pick up a an auto parts store or should I try West Marine?

Apparently its sold at PepBoys and used to be sold at Ace Hardware stores, we don't have anyone local here that sells it, so I did a search for Liquid Glass on the net and ordered it online. It was about a year ago, and I ordered a whole case, so I don't remember where I got it.

Unfortunately its like everything else. It was like $8 or $9 to ship one bottle (a bottle costs about $5) or I could get a case and also pay $8 shipping. So I stocked up, and I think ASH and I split the case.

Frenzy! Vinyl Protectant is not a cleaner. It is a conditioner. However, our Orange Concentrate or Super Degreaser are both excellent cleaners without the harsh chemicals of some others.

We have also had great luck using Waxing Frenzy! to clean vinyl. I know, I know...sounds weird, but, then again...it IS Frenzy!

303 Aerospace protectant is the best

I have used Greased Lightning from Menards on touph seat dirt with good luck, it may be a little harsh though. Keep it away from aluminum though it eats it.

Nothing against 303, but we have done extensive comparisons and ours outlasts 303 every time. When testing on our Marine Patrol rigids (inflatables), the 303 turned white within a few days. Frenzy! Vinyl Protectant did not.

Greased Lightning is a good cleaner, but will yellow your gel if you overspray. It will also eat away at the stitching. I wouldn't recommend using it often and always follow up with a good conditioner.

What would be the best choice to use on new vinyl. We put a new interior in the boat and want to know what to use as a protectant. Would wax work or would an actual vinyl protectant be better?

I was told by our boat maker that if I used 303 on the vinyl that they would give me a 5 year warranty on my seats, so I tried it and I haven't found anything better.

Just recieved the Frenzy 4-pak yesterday. [smilie=trink39]

Thanks for the quick delivery Dr. J. Oh, and the packaging was excellent.....I'm sure the town talk is about the new drug house that recieved the case of syringes! [smilie=rollinglaugh.gif]

Anyway, I'm gonna give them a try this weekend, the Frenzy products, on the first boat cleanin'. I'll try to report back on the results. Any cleaning secrets anyone has would be appreciated!

Later,

Boo

Nice boat! Looks like it's been kept up. Since you have the Frenzy! products, I would advise you to use the Waxing Frenzy! on the metal and around each of the snaps. They tend to collect water, for some reason, and the WF will keep them from rusting. Those burgundy Maxums tend to fade, so it's good to see you have it under cover. I'd be sure to wax the hull at least every 3 months to keep her looking so nice. If you run into any problems, give us a ring.

Come on SUMMER!!!
