Which do you prefer? Loudest? Most rugged? With and Without a sub? How many to get good sound?

I have had the infinity's in the past and like them a lot, I recently switched out to the Memphis and I think they have a better sound.
I have 6 pairs of the Infinity's I will be putting up for sale this weekend if you are interested. 75 a pair plus shipping

How necessary are marine speakers? If I am putting speakers somewhere where they won't get wet, do I need to worry about it?

good question beef, I would like to know the same thing, becasue the car audio ones can be much cheaper and possibly sound a little better.

Good Question. I do however like the white colors of the marine speakers on white boat panels.

I have infinity 6.5 "non marine" speakers in my crownie. They were in it when I bought it. Sound great, and I havn't had any problems with them except for the dam grills coming off.

I have Alpines in my 32' and Infinity's in my 38'. My 32' also has 2-10" subs and 1000watt amp. The Infinity's still kick ass over the Alpine system.
Marine speakers have a polymer cone that is waterproof and have better seals to the voice coils. If you know they absolutely will not get wet, go with the regular speakers.
I've got the Memphis in my boat, they have great sound and can handle alot of watts, they're three years old and still pounding [smilie=1074.gif]
Try Polk DB650's. Excellent in a boat.

I went with Polk momo's carbon fiber series, I like them a lot.
If your boat is stored at a dock/lift you may want marine speakers because of the amount of dew/condensation that is present.jmo

Lets not forget about the humid jungle that is created when you cover a boat with wet carpet.
I use a standard headunit, and marine speakers whenever possible. My headunit is protected (except from flying cookies now and again) and I like the features of the standard automotive models.
I have 6.5 Sony Marines in my Crownline, and they sound fine in my opinion. We replaced the JBL's in dads boat. The factory ones were absolute crap.

As long as you do not use paper cones they will last for a while. I have always used automotive speakers. The one marine radio I had died after one season so I replaced it with an automotive radio. You can buy a lot of white paint for the grills when spend nearly half the price for marine stuff.

Infinity marine hands down the best sound for the money.

We've had Infinity's in the past, sound quality does diminish after using them a while. Fusion Encounter Series is a great speaker and half the price of Infinity. We've done a side by side sound test and the Fusion has far better sound quality. [smilie=twocents.gif]

We put 24 6.5 Diamonds and 5 Alpine amps in Uncle Charlie's boat and it sounds pretty good.... You have to paint the speaker grill to get them white

John I talked to Matt recently and he suggested the sony's 2way with the clarion subs. I have the standard sony 6.5's w/o the tweeter. My concern is the mounting hole. I don't want to cut my 5" holes out, and with Matt's suggestion on the Sony's they would drop right in. I was looking at JL but they are expensive. I want to freeair a 10" but I can't find the right location. I am about 1 mile from you guys at the lake and I told Matt I would like to hook up and see what you guys think. I would purchase from you and need help cutting the hole.

Fusion, Fusion, Fusion..............I concur!
Fusion has great marine and car audio speakers. If you can find the Fusions that have a tweeter you can aim it makes a big difference in the amount of sound directed at the listener.

I really like the MB Quartz marines, a little pricey, but sound clean, loud, and take a ton of power.
