Waite until it's time to wax again, and soak a rag in Diesel Fuel and run it around the rub rail. That will clean any bug or tar or wax. Then wash the boat real well and Be careful when you wax it again.

"Goof Off" works wonders on the rub rail. Just make sure you put a protectant back on after it's clean.

I'd guess you missed Earth day last week? [smilie=lols]
Why don't you tell him to dump his old anti-freeze down the storm sewer? [smilie=265.gif]

Try a little Frenzy! Shark Tower. Or, if you don't have that, try some sand paper. Lightly rub it and follow up with vinyl protectant.

Kim, I tried the sand paper (#600) on my black rub rails, which did take off the white marks, but I haven't tried the vinyl protectant, will that bring the black shine back instead of the dull gray color they are now after I sanded?

That should do the trick. STAY AWAY FROM ARMOR-ALL.

Use Acetone on a clean rag. This works really well. It melts a very thin layer of the plastic for a milisecond and the rag takes off the dirty top layer of plastic. It leaves new plastic behind. A tip: keep the rag very saturated with the solvent and use a different part of the rag for each pass.
I just did my white rub rail and look brand new, it whiter than my boat is. [smilie=061.gif]

The Acetone trick should work on all colored rubrails to remove markes or light fadeing.

I've used gas before, not sure if it was good or not but it worked really good!! I just rinsed the boat when I was done [smilie=061.gif]

Acetone will do the trick; just try not to do that too often. It dries out the rubber. [smilie=011.gif]

I use soft scrub and a scotch pad on my white rub/rail. Works great! I wouldn't use the kin with bleach on a black one though.

I use acetone on white, black and chrome rub rails. Works great. Use it on any scuff marks on the rub rail or gle coat also, they come right off.

Sandpaper, rubbing compound, or acetone... all take off the top layer. I use a soft sanding block.
